Nearest Bouldering to Egham (Surrey)
June 01, 2010, 11:52:41 am
Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone knew of any bouldering within a reasonable distance of Egham (Surrey), as I will be living up there this summer. I'm sure I probably already know the answer (Southern Sandstone), but I'm not sure! Please let it be good news, otherwise I'll have to spend my time mostly on the plastic....

Ta.

I'm afraid it is the southern Sandstone. Although if you're keen and up for a long drive and early you can go to the Peak/ Dorset for the day.

Dorset might not be too much further (time wise) than the sandstone from that side of London/Surrey....

All depends on the mercy of the M25... It's taken me 1.5 hours to get to Harrison's, and it's taken me 40 minutes, both from Epsom. Portland on a good day is 3 hours.

I'm assuming you know of Craggy Island 2? Indoors, but very good.

Aye, done it from Leatherhead in a day - not worth it, jsut too knackering, esp on busy midsummer roads.

I live in Egham at the moment.  Nearest real rocks are: Southern Sandstone, Swanage and Portland, Peak.

Stone Farm we did a couple of weekends back in about 1h (perhaps less on the way back when there was no traffic).

Swanage 2 hours, Portland a bit longer.

But in 2 hours you could practically be in parts of the Peak

All depends on how bad the traffic is.
