I've built a small campus board which I can fit about 3 rungs on. I'm going to make the rungs myself rather than buying the Metolius  ones. What's the best type of wood to use? Also, what's the best way of fixing them to the plywood sheet? I was thinking T-nuts and bolts - about M6.

i dont know the best wood to use but you can just screw them onto the ply.

Thanks Paul but it's still a lot cheaper and easier to make your own I think. All you need is to buy the wood for a few pounds and cut, plane and sand it a bit. It doesn't say how long they are on the site.

Krank - Thanks but my ply is not very thick so I'd prefer to use bolts. It doesn't need to be thick because it's not a large sheet.

I was thinking of making some sloper campus rungs too. What's the best angle that will be challenging but not impossible for campusing? I was thinking about 35 degrees from horizontal. How thick should I make the sloper surface? I guess about the length of my middle finger?

I was thinking about pinches too. I guess this would be like thick campus rungs orientated more vertically. Does anyone have a good picture showing a campus board with a variety of wooded hold types?

I thought you're sloper dimensions sounded pretty good, but I'm no expert. Pieces of wood are so cheap from B&Q that you might as well try a few different shapes and sizes.

Thanks for the links. They were useful. I wanted to share some photos of my project so far. The whole thing is basically designed to fit into the attic hatch in my house. No modifications needed to the house and it can easily be removed for access to the attic. The top campus rung is a bit inaccessible at the moment but I plan to move the whole thing forwards. I plan to add slopers and pinches to the campus board.

thats the best thing i've ever seen. good job you used t-nuts i don't think the humble screw would ave been much use to connect 2bits of wood
