boreal ninjas??
March 11, 2010, 10:11:41 pm
hi all, what are your thoughts on boreal ninja rock climbing shoes as a first pair for a beginner starting bouldering and climbing?? i like the fact that there are no laces or anything so i can slip them on quickly even if they are not as secure as laces
cheers all in advance

Try a few things on and see what fits you best.

I tend to use lace ups as I've rarely found a vecro/ slipper that stays on properly when doing heel hooks.

As a beginner you are likely to be better with velcro or laces. Slippers tend not to hold the foot well unless they are fitted tight (painfully tight by average beginner standards).

  • Getting fatter, not fitter.

You could argue that the better shoes are (for you) the less you'll notice them.

I'd suggest you may notice slippers either stretching and getting sloppy, or being unbearably tight initially to compensate for this.

Rock shoes won't last forever: as a first pair get something robust and comfortable then get picky from there.

ps I've been climbing since 1982 and I STILL prefer laces..

Climbing since 1982 and I prefer shoes that are comfortable.  If you look at what people climbed in EB / PA, Cragratz etc and the grades that people climb at now, for the majority the shoe isn't an issue.

Why have painful feet for very little benefit?

cheer all for the help
i see what your saying and it does make sense so i will try on a few more laces and forget about the ninjas as a beginners shoe
cheers again
