Storing Bikes
March 06, 2010, 08:38:59 pm
For those of you who know anything about bikes, If I store my bike by hanging it vertically off one wheel, will it buckle, or otherwise deform the wheel over time?

Thanks in advance

I can't see how it would ever cause any problems.

Rich, does the bracket hang the bike off a wheel, or come down further to hang it off the frame? I don't want anything hanging down too far when the bike's not there you see.

Hanging a bike from its front wheel off a hook on the wall would be absolutely fine - they don't weigh enough on their own for this to do any damage. Lots of bike storage systems work like this.

For a small initial investment, but rising exponentially over the years you could, of course, go for the  married mans perogative.

Not too pricey either
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/LifeLine_Wall_Rack/5360026439/
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=10230
both with free delivery

This rings a bell, I remember a thread from ages ago someone found a really cool looking one, can't remember much about it, I imagine it was pricey. If it's for your shed I guess a designer one isn't needed.

edit: Google is my friend...http://ukbouldering.com/board/index.php?topic=9743.0
It was pretty much the same as the Wiggle one anyway

Trade in your bike for a unicycle andy, then all your storage problems are gone.

It's for the shed, but I'm planning on screwing hooks into the ceiling joists rather than take up wall space. Pehaps I should be worrying more about the ceiling than the bike wheels.

Wait a minute. What are you saying about my shed?

and my transport problems are only just beginning. How am I supposed to give emma a backy on a unicycle?
