Peaking for a sport trip
December 15, 2009, 08:25:20 pm
I have plans for a 10/14 days trip to Verdon/Tarn planned for end of March. Would anyone out there be able to offer some advice on the best way to prepare? Have already strted doing 5k run x2 per week and laps at the wall etc...

You can borrow that conditioning for climbing if you want, if you're leaving in March then that 10 week 4-3-2-1 would fit in nicely if you started just after Christmas.

Building some strength and some power, then focusing increasingly on endurance is defo the way to go - with the laps etc sounds like you know what you're doing.

But I have read in several places (Self-Coached Climber, some article by Steve McClure) that you shouldn't do anaerobic endurance sessions (laps/intervals etc) more than 2 x a week for more than 6 weeks or so. Something to do with the lactic acid breaking down the muscle? My 2p anyway.
