Geoguessr ... a geography nerd's delight. Only just started playing but I think it may take me a while to beat my 11,921 score from these.

Not really surprising: all the the rich places, but interesting none the less. I have just enriched my life looking at a skidoo park in Svalbad.

New alternative to Google Reader CommaFeed.

Cleaner than Feedly, faster than Old Reader.

Piece of piss to import Google Reader subscriptions/categorisation.

20563 on first attempt - these. Were they easy? I think I'll retire anyway...

Google Music is working well here, handy way to back up almost two decades of Essential Mixes too as its song number rather than fixed MB.

Just realised how useful this is.

Use your mobile like a Wiimote. A wrist strap is probably a good idea, had a close call with mine.

Might be Android only, not sure.

If you're not happy with the new way in which Google might use your profile for endorsements simply opt out.

I found a red button saying `opt out` but couldn`t make it work. Am I just a sad old incompetent?

Is it possible to use Drive to backup folders that are not within the actual 'drive' folder? There are a few things that I'd like to be backed up off-site but I'm not keen on either a) moving them (they're there for a reason) or b) making duplicates (HDD is already bulging at the seams). I'm sure you could do this with dropbox by linking to the folder.

The only way I can think of doing it is installing my drive folder almost as root and then telling it to ignore almost everything but that seems backward.

Thanks.

If you've an android device and use GPS then you can view your location on a Google map.

https://maps.google.com/locationhistory/b/0

(Obviously you need to be logged into Google in your browser for it to retrieve the correct information).

You can export this data (along with everything else Google has on you) and then plot it in the free statistical software R, blog post on howto....

Anyone with a Gmail account...

You can now supposedly "reach people you know more easily" (in reality it likely means others can reach you more easily) as its now possible to email someones Google+ profile without having to know the recipients email address.

You can prevent people from sending you such messages under your Gmail account settings (under 'General' > 'Email via Google+' and setting it to "No one").

Yeah, it's really annoying how Google are trying to push + so hard. At least they could have set the default to "circles" and not everyone and their dog.  The new images showing in emails default seems less sinister though.

It's doing a pretty good job even with GPS turned off. I've kind of accepted that Google can track your location at all times; the benefits outweigh the downsides.  If you don't want to be tracked then you can't really have a mobile phone that's in your name.

I'm not too bothered about known location as you say Bubba the benefits are great.

There are any number of "HowTo's" out there on minimising the way in which Google share you're information if you don't want messages from strangers or your ratings to appear in contacts searches, disabling profile building for advertising etc.
