Wanted: Rockfax Peak Bouldering Guidebook
November 11, 2009, 03:50:24 pm
Looking to get hold of a copy of this baby:

I have emailed Rockfax, but they don't know where I can get a copy and Ebay is not working either...

Cheers

Sorry. Not getting rid of my copy any time soon, but I was just curious, why?

Why not get the newer, better, wider ranging

EDIT:   Maybe try Hitch n Hike in Bamford, and Hope. I've seen some old guidebooks in there before now.

Thanks Drew - I have a copy of the Rupert Davies one.

The Rockfax one covers a lot of the lesser known areas such as Hobson Moor Quarry (which is close to me) and has more problems (apparently) than the newer guide too...

You listening cofe and jonjon? I warned you about ignoring quarries on the western fringe...

There's a new edition of the VG guide out next year, should fix your issues if you can wait.

Great stuff - I have been trying to procure the Rockfax one for about a year now, so waiting for another one is not going to make much difference :)

Thank you for the info  :great:

The occasional one appears on Amazon secondhand, but you have to check pretty regularly!

Not being any reflection on the value of the new one, but I think that the Rockfax one was a great guide. I have always been really impressed by the accuracy and userability of the topos, and the info always rings true.

I actually got one for xmas, didn't like it and took it back to the shop. Ironically I swapped it for a guide I've barely used.

That would be blinding if you do  :great:

If you do and are willing to part with one, let me know how much you want for it...

Well I definitely have two copies. However glancing up at the guidebook shelf didn't yield results, a quick trip to the bathroom revealed no peak bouldering guide in the toilet reading pile.
This means they could be anywhere in the house, which isn't good news on the "find it quickly" front.

However if I find one I'll send it to you in exchange for a donation to a MRT of your choice (the size of the donation is also at your discretion). Fair?

You're welcome!  Hope you get one from nik at work though, otherwise I've just created more competition for myself, doh!

I've had a look and can't find either of them right now. I'll keep hunting and let you know if one turns up, but if you locate one in the meantime then I'd say go for it. Finding anything in my house is a major venture at the best of times....

Thanks to everyone for their responses/tips/info and to Nik especially for searching through his mansion house/van, I have managed to finally find a mint copy on Ebay (it's only taken me a year).

I'm a happy chappy now!

indeed i'm sure they would.

peak: bouldering is crud at the lower end.

I can now boulder up to v4, which means i'm almost good enough for it to be a useful guide, but up to this point, and for plenty of my friends, and when i take new peeps bouldering it's just been hopeless.

I'm sure lower grade problems would increase popularity of the new edition as well, tis the reason we all treat rockfax like golddust...

...maybe i need to lose some pies...
