Yo,
    gonna get serious and create some wooden holds for my board. Being as i'm not really the DIY type can anyone direct me to the most suitable power tools to assist in this task?  ive got a workbench and, some chisels and a plain (not sure if correct spelling), sandpaper and a cordless drill.

Baring in mind im starting from scratch so need to make a lot of holds, what else would you guys buy to make it easier. Preferably relatively cheap power tools i.e. the ones they make value versions of.

Was also thinking of buying a lot of dowling/ broom handles for many of the holds, any ideas for where this is most cheaply sourceable?

you probably want a belt sander as the most useful tool. best to work out of way of mounting it upside down on a workbench.

Also if they have a mitre saw they are very handy for cutting lots of holds out of a length of 3" x 2" (other sized timbers are available).
The ones in that link are all whizzy expensive jobs but B&Q do an own brand version for about twenty five notes I think, just make sure you can adjust the angle of it (ideally in two planes). And be careful, these things can eat fingers...

Best solution I've seen - buy a Jenga set from the car boot sale, for £3. That's 50 holds right there.

I tried that - it was fine until I tried to move the holds around and my wall fell down.

That's why you should always train with someone who doesn't know your wall as well as you do. End every session with a victory. It's a win-win situation. Both wins for you, obviously.

any ideas for cheap dowling acquiry...  nipped out in work lunch to a big BandQ  got a 1/3 sheet sander for less than a tenner. had a look for some downling but it was about £10 for a length (1 Metre i guess), is this the price to expect or can it be sourced cheaper?

If you've got plenty of sand paper then grab a piece of white dowling, don some dark glasses and waddle out of the shop using your newly accquired assistance stick.

Walk into random displays/racks for the full effect 

Use said sand paper to remove paint when home.

Borrow brooms of several friends, cut the top couple of inches off the the handle of each one then return them.

Live manchester mate but would be quite keen to take some of those offcuts off your hands. Hoping to get out sheffield way next weekend if thats useful?
