Resoling - soescalade or ????
September 16, 2009, 01:59:35 pm

Last time I had some shoes resoled (several years ago)it was by soescalade in France & they did a brilliant job. The one time I tried a uk co it turned out to be a complicated & expensive way of binning them.

Is it still like that or have  the uk companies caught up?
Has anyone used both for a comparison.

Thanks for the input as always.

Used to get really good resoles from Feet First, but the last couple have been pretty shit and the toe rands have peeled away very quickly.

Had a pair resoled in Perth (Australia) and whilst the finish was good the shoe "mould" seemed to be way off and there was no longer any outside edge on my shoe which was a pain.

If I remember correctly the Sheffield shop had the choice of Stealth, Oynx, Fusion and perhaps one other type of rubber.

Is it worth taking a pair of really badly worn shoes to resolers (i.e. can see my toe)? Or are they beyond repair? I'd just like to have a second pair of shoes to use down the wall, and save my good ones for rock. Otherwise I seem to go through 2-3 pairs a year.

Do you go through them all to the toe? If they are at that stage, probably best to bin. I don't bother resoling anymore, but when I used to I found that you could keep the shoe pretty much as good as new provided you stopped wearing as soon as the some went through (need some self-discipline and a new pair waiting in the wings!), but if the rand needed replacing it probably wasn't worth it, as the characteristics of the shoe changed somewhat.

Try to get a new pair once the rubber has worn through, but tried to make my new shoes last longer by using the old pair to destruction this time. Guess it's not worth resoling them.
I always wear through on my right foot well before my left, wonder if it's to do with the ankle I broke on that side and worse 'awareness' of foot positioning.
Thanks for the advice, apologies for the slight hijack.  :guilty:   :spank:

Nah you just need to stop dragging your toes up the wall  ;)

Or wieghting one foot more than the other when walking down vertical wall lowering off. I know I am guilty of this. Beasts who only train on overhanging shizzle need not worry.
