Well starting to get fed up with bikes leaning on bikes in the store room (also I suspect not very good for them either).

We have enough room to be able to have any sort of storage, hanging from wall, hanging from celling, on the floor etc.

So the big questions are, what's best for the bikes? on the floor, wheel hanging, frame hanging, and which makes and types would you recomend?

Any help would be most appreciated,  BKB...

very handy if you dont want to damage the walls.

It happily takes four bikes. If you can find my flickr page (bbrowne72 i think) there's a photo of the loaded rack on there. I can't link it I'm afraid. flickr is blocked from work

are the rafters exposed. if so...make a loop of old rope then poke the nose of your seat through it. hey presto, bikes hanging up off the deck!

I wasn't too sure about hanging the full weight off the wheel. Would/Could it do damage?

Can't see it being a problem - if a wheel can take half of your weight then the weight of a bike isn't going to do anything bad to it.

Ok, so other than practicality there seems to be no +ive or -ive reasons for going for one over the others.

I do like the idea of the pole that goes from floor to celling, there is quite a lot of space in the centre of the room at the moment which I think would just be the right spot for the bikes . I had better check that the gap between floor and celling isn't over 3m (everything looks high when your 5ft 2" ).

I just built a simple frame for the wall so that they didn't have to lean on each other.

On a seperate note, is it strange that 3 years after this picture was taken I only own one of these bikes still and all the others have been replaced?

Yep, Superlight remains. Still great for riding a long way on.

Cannondale did good service for a long time, it was bought in 1992 and was used as a commuter by my wife, recently donated to a mate to stick a kiddy seat on the back.

Patriot was only temporary as I stripped all the bits off to put on the Bullit which has now also been sold and replaced with the Cotic.

GT road bike has been replaced with a carbon bike.

Wife's Marin now replaced with a Trek.

All good fun.
