I think he's referring (jokingly) to the waterstreaks.

Now't hard or impressive but I had a great long weekend in Cornwall just gone and snapped this whilst sat on the belay after the first pitch of Diocese (amazingly good route, this second pitch is only 5a but really )

The N95 is serving me well  :)

If Parisella's was bigger...

Should probably be in the bouldering thread but too lazy to jump over there.  Some inspiration for the lantern sessions...

Diocese looks really good and has been added to the list of things that must be done next year. Did he suffer from much rope drag on that second pitch?  ;D

Its a great route, well worthy of its ***.

No rope drag on that pitch, its only about 10m, most of which is the traverse, and the belay is just round the corner.  With careful rope work you could probably string pitches 1 & 2 together (but you'd miss out on one of the best belay ledges in the world).  Pitches 3 & 4 can be strung together easily enough.

Plus if you string one and 2 together you don't get your mate to lead the slightly awkward first pitch, while you get to led the fun second.

Can't for the life of me remember the name of this guy, Neil Gresham belaying and Matt??? on Masters Edge - he used to write the training articles in OTE - he nailed it but took a wobbly topping out - crappy camera and scanner!

I very much doubt it!

It's funny, people took the piss out of Smythe but most of the training stuff he did which was seen as odd back in the day is standard practice now (I stress "most"  ;)). Deadhanging in particular. He was also one of the least naturally talented climbers I've ever met and yet climbed 8b and E7 by sheer hard work and dedication. And he's a top bloke.

I've just realized that my post might have looked a bit snooty about Matt but it wasn't meant to. I just hadn't realized that he'd done Masters.

I wasn't referring to you with the piss taking comment andy.  :)

He did Masters around the same time as Airlie.

One's scary and holds a good chance of injury. The other's E7.
