They're cool, have come across them before, I particularly like the ones of The Vice (top ones of 1975 for those who don't recognise it, which probably isn't many), they clearly demonstrate why I avoid it like the plague!

I did email the guy to tell him what the route was when I first came across the pics, but he's obviously not updated the web-pages.

Picture snapped last night at Stanage, I think they're on Stanage Without Oxygen.  Wasn't sure whether to put this in the bouldering or chuffing thread, but given it gets E5 6c I opted for this one.

"We were highly motivated to do the first ascent of this spectacular waterfall.

For climbing we knew that we had to be on the left side of the waterfall always. To the right the ice did not look so good anymore. After we chose our line to climb, we were so psyched for the climbing that we abseiled down despite knowing that there was quite strong sunlight at the exit of the waterfall. The temps where ok, around -2°C, but we underestimated the strong sun.

But after some meters of climbing, a rumbling shocked us—the giant threw a monstrous load of ice against us. An ice roof fell down and crashed to the right of us into thousands of boulders. It was on the very right side at the exit of the waterfall where this huge ice roof broke off....

The waterfall is called "Furope no taki" and is still unclimbed."

:jaw: If ever I needed a picture to vindicate my attitutde towards ice-climbing (I prefer the strata I'm placing gear in to be solid) that picture would do fine.

The stuff on the left looks quite solid

Does ice stuff count as chuffing then?  There are some lovely shots on the alpinist site but I'm never sure if they count as chuffing?

It does in my book and I have to agree on the Alpinist shots. I've been steadily downloading all their wallpapers to use as the screensaver on my next new machine  8)
