Interesting... I wonder if they found some tv footage showing him not saying 'I never called you a'
Maybe he had his fingers crossed when he said it...

The difference between the Luis Suarez case and the JT case is that there is clear evidence of JT making racist comments but there is no evidence what so ever of Suarez making a racist comment, despite it supposedly happening in a crowded penalty box. JT was caught on camera, it is purely the word of Evra accusing Suarez.

Now, I'm no lawyer, but it would appear to me that the FA case against Suarez is shaky at best.

I thought Suarez's defence was that what he said wasn't racist, not that he didn't say it? I may be wrong but did he not say "negro" was a term of endearment?

IMO Suarez and LFC should have apologised for what he said, taken the ban on the chin and got on with it. Their current stance is embarrassing.

the term is "negrito" but no matter how endearing it is supposed to be it is still a reference to skin colour.  The term is not used or understood outside Uruguay for good reason, it is not acceptable.

I thought "negrito", in english usr at least, was an antiquated term for an asiatic pygmy? I don't think its intrinsically deregotary

the 'ito' makes it in the diminutive - which is supposed to be an endearing term...

Just call me TomTomito...

I agree nai, I was refuting* Andy F's point that only Evra heard the words with the statement from Suarez which implies he admits saying it anyway.

Hmmm, you're not the most diminutive of gentlemen......

*for all politicians reading, refute means to challenge with evidence, not "to disagree"

In interesting light in the sense of 'scousers try to sidestep the guilty verdict by using dubious distraction tactics shocker'?  :)

Crawley v Gillingham - yesterday.

Crawley turn off floodlights while Gills are warming down.

The ever gracious Steve Evans' post match interview.

And - if that's not enough, there was a bad tackle towards the end of the match.

OUCH!

Suarez - bang to rights.

Quote
This is Suarez' account:

He agreed with Mr Evra that they spoke to each other in Spanish in the goalmouth. When Mr Evra asked why he had kicked him, Mr Suarez replied that it was a normal foul and shrugged his shoulders. Mr Evra then said that he was going to kick Mr Suarez, to which Mr Suarez told him to shut up. As Mr Kuyt was approaching, Mr Suarez touched Mr Evra's left arm in a pinching style movement. According to Mr Suarez, at no point in the goalmouth did he use the word "negro". When the referee blew his whistle to stop play, Mr Evra spoke to Mr Suarez and said (in English) "Don't touch me, South American". Mr Suarez replied "Por que, negro?". He says that he used the word "negro" in a way with which he was familiar from his upbringing in Uruguay. In this sense, Mr Suarez claimed, it is used as a noun and as a friendly form of address to people seen as black or brown-skinned (or even just blackhaired). Thus, it meant "Why, black?" Mr Suarez maintained that when he said "Por que, negro?" to Mr Evra, it was intended in a conciliatory and friendly way. Mr Suarez said this was the only time that he used the word "negro" in his exchanges with Mr Evra during the match.

How stupid must his team mates feel now his own evidence states he said "Negro".

But it's all right, he won't say it on a football pitch again.

Here's a better idea - don't say it again anywhere.

Flippin 'eck...great result for Sunderland and the neutrals.  What did I say two weeks ago about us overplaying the ball in front of the goal?  I just wish our players would shoot more often rather than pass the ball in front of the box.  Dzeko, Johnson and Toure all lacked conviction and concentration today.

Enjoy the evening Philo and Graeme  :)
