Total football

There's five current Premiership managers in there and a colleague tells me eight former Wednesday players.

he's upped it to nine now, if he was right it'd be a first in three years....

There's something wrong with that Pannini album - it claims Scotland have been to a World Cup finals. Shureley shome mishtake.

No Graeme they used to be allowed to qualify as a joke. Just so that The Sweaties could get their hopes up about making it past the first round for once only to be battered by Costa Rica and the like thus giving us all a good laugh. Unfortunately their total ineptitude in the qualifying rounds in recent years has prevented such fun.

What would you give for that team turning out on Sunday?

Interesting piece here:

I'd have Walker in defence and Waddler on the wing.
And Nilsson at right back
And John Harkes in midfield

Allright Petrescu as well.

Apparently Waddle plays the occasional Sunday league game now (he still lives in Dore IIRC) and even with his considerable increase in size still does the "drop the left shoulder, use outside of right foot thing" to shimmy past people half his age. Even though they know its coming.
Definitely the best player I've seen in a Wednesday shirt.

No doubt the best player to pull on a Devonshire Arms shirt too   :-\  Think that's who he turns out for anyway

According to my elderly neighbour half of Sheffield's footballers live in the area at any given time and the list of legends who've lived on my street is endless.  I've lost count how many times he's told me about the time Gazza (just after Italia 90 by coincidence) visited with Waddle and what a night that was...

I saw Waddle, Gazza and a load of ex Wednesday players inc. David Hirst in a charity tournament a few years ago. From the first kick off (against a student side) Hirst spotted the keeper off his line and scored from the halfway line. Gazza immediately turned round and mooned the opposition.

Waddle and particularly Hirst are fat fuckers but they're still quality on the ball.

Allegedly Hirsty takes the kids to school, plays a round of golf at the Dore & Totley, then drinks in the bar until its time to pick the kids up from school. Every day.

Allegedly

Poyet's started the clearout...... http://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/albion/8129376.Virgo_shown_the_door_by_Poyet/?ref=twt

Be interesting to see who he brings in once the cull is complete. Easier to attract players now we have a respected manager and the prospect of playing here.......

I don't often say this, and doubt it'll happen very often again in the future.

But.

Went to Eastlands with the Father in law today. Great game, City very nervy for the first 40 mins with me barely able to look every time the ball went to our on loan keeper.  We were denied a couple of penalty opportunities until the blatant foul and Tevez stuck away the pen.  Second half Villa didn't really get a shot on goal. Vierra and Zabaleta were joint MOTM.  Its all teed up nicely for Wednesday but I fly t to Singapore at 10pm so will hopefully catch most of the game at Heathrow.

what's the odds on city winning on wednesday then losing at west ham?

I lost 2 hours today watching blues vs burnley, the faltering force vs the blowaway object.  We scrambled two goals but any half decent strikeforce would have posted a cricket score then typically we gift them a goal and end up hanging on.  Still, ninth looks pretty feasible now which would be our best finish since 1961 and only second highest ever.  So, musn't grumble.
