My new bike, Genesis Altitude 00, arrives tomorrow

, but it comes with SPDs. This is no bad thing as despite only having tried SPDs once, they'll be spot on for some XC.

However, I'll be using this bike as much for bimbling around to pubs, mate's houses etc and don't want to have to wear SPD shoes or struggle to use tiny pedals and trainers.

Does such a thing exists as a pedal that clips into the SPD fitting or will I need to buy new pedals?

You bike might come with a plastic platform that fits onto the top of the spd. I got some with mine, and found them useful for when I do approaches to routes and need to wear hiking boots. They are a bit fiddly though and the plastic eventially bends so that they stop fitting properly and fall off somewhere beween Linn of Dee and Derry Lodge and you have to make do without. Alternatively you can get pedals with flats on one side and an SPD clip on the other.

Pizza piss provided you can remember which is the left and which is the right and make sure you turn them the right way. If you are only going short distances on road it's not too bad just using SPD pedal with normal trainers, just beware on way back from pub.

the way to go must be to change the pedal. not buy shoes that requre a "casual" spd shoe. they will no doubt look shit.

I've got some of those MP66 shoes from a time when I was young and foolish - don't bother, they're shit. I also have those A530's - much better solution, though really I'd just swap the pedals for some flats when you don't want to clip in, and not compromise.

Your town bike looks sweet chappers. I'm not sure I've got the legs for a single speed.

My bike has arrived, just got the pedals on and the nice people at Genesis have popped a pair of http://www.starbike.com/php/product_info.php?lang=en&pid=10079 in the bag so I can mince to the pub on it in trainers without the faff of pedal changing.

Right, I'm off to vote and I'm going to cycle.

I'll be tearing up the hills around Manchester before they know what's happened.

Those are what I have (had). The plastic bends eventually so don't lose one on the way home from pub.

I have a set of the below on my bike and they are ace!
When you are cycling in trainers you don't even know the clips are there, they're the same on both side (so don't have to spin them), and when wearing cleats you clip in/out with no hassle what so ever!!
Best all round peddle I ever owned...

that isnt a spoke card froma race, its is a pic of sheldon brown.
there is still one from yo fixie in my spokes at the moment, didnt bother doing much on the day though, the three days before i rode from windermere to the start of the c2c then across to sunderland so my legs were a little tired. (thats my excuse anyway).
