Let's not let such a minor detail stand in the way of wanton pedantry.

The route is 'Partheon Shot' though - because that's what John called it.

Let's not let such a minor detail stand in the way of wanton pedantry.

Don't be such a profit of doom.

"Occam's" and "razor"

Which in itself is strange as the principle, even if it wasn't his idea, is commonly attributed to William of Ockham (Wikipedia redirects "Ockham's razor" to "Occam's razor" though, should really be the other way round).

Mis-spelling or sophisticated multiple punning?  :-\
Two words for you Joe:
"Occam's" and "razor"
Ah but Jon you forget John's extensive classical education combined with the honing of his wit in that mid-eighties crucible rapier repartee that was the Malham Cat Walk.

 and I thought he just skipped school, ate cake and watched Arnold Schwartzenegger films.

Sadly I believe his learning was too frequently disturbed by the sound of a continually ringing trim-phone, so I'm sticking with the original theory.

I think you will find that Partheon Shot is a subtle play on Parthian and Pantheon: thus it is both a Parthian Shot i.e. a telling blow by John to his critics even as he was leaving the field and a "shot" at entering the Pantheon of  the climbing gods by making such a bold ascent.

I heard that Dawes wanted to call it Pantheon Short

Little man in the Hall of the Great etc? I'd call that Aspirational Projection.
