Having repeated near death experiences on my DH bike in wharncliffe today I seriously doubt it was dry / not green at the bouldering.. But, the DH tracks ( even th new more northern ones) are not near the rock.. But I know the climate of the place well. It's shockingly wet in there ATM.

Left a very cold, but mint plantation green traverse at dusk today, with the usual fast drying aretes and such all good.

With this snow, this wet shite heavy snow...

Don't even consider it tomorow.....

I just wasted 70 quid on Mtb uplift fees for south Wales tomorrow.

Fucking bollocks...

I think I underestimated the snow.

Putting it out there, I just did the last ascent of the green traverse 2014.

Look at me.

Got as far as Norfolk Arms on Ringinglow Road at about midday. Some keen folk were going futher but turning around at that layby on the right before the cattle grid. Plenty of 4x4s getting across though.

In terms of the climbing, everything at Burbage North is fucked, with no real drifts for snowballing, unless you are mad keen for shovelling and don't mind a bit of height. (sorry can't figure out how to embed photos now flickr has changed )

Western Eyes and Westside Story were dry and I cleared the snow off the top so they should be good to go if you can get there.

If anyone gets to West could you shove some snow into the landing of Western Eyes between the two blocks? Really helps with the adding if you're there on your own or without a dozen mats. I'll be trying to get on it after yet another day of sedentary family gorging on food.

Snow from Leicestershire up, a few inches by Chesterfield, this is on the railway BTW, I suspect further "inland" will be at least as bad. West Face of BR might dry out okay though?

From James Turnbull but probably worth reposting here:

Morning update for boulderers for my early run. West side story and western eyes look good but may have to approach from fox house. Also mother cap looked great (conan and David), but alas I'm at work. Have fun

There looked to be some dry rock as I drove past but wasn't properly looking, could be worth a quick look. If not keep going..

A57 was fine as far as cut throat bridge parking. I walked up to Derwent edges, Sick Arete (font 7A/+) is bone dry and no snow on top so good to go. We did it in the spring, it's good, might be worth taking a rope to ab and clean the scrittle off first. We had 3 pads which was fine then, kicking a bit of snow about underneath will make it feel nicer too.
Amazing views back over the Peak. Stanag End Slab was plastered in snow as far as I could tell from a distance, so Chip Shop Brawl a no go for a few days yet, but seems to collect snow well so could be worth a look mid/end of the week if the layby parking clears.

Cheers Mark, although I'm disappointed you were watching the road instead of the crag ;)

Good effort on your explorations and reports!

This is for a Tuesday trip so any updates will be appreciated.

Burbage west was in great nick this morning. Most of the rock in the valley that catches the sun looked okay, but there are melting cornices on some stuff. Ringinglow now fine if you're happy driving on snow.

Any idea if the western eyes landing was filled with snow at all?

Dave - the knowledge on the landing is to balance a big pad across the gap between those two boulders. I found that once you get used to it 'collapsing' when you fall off, it's actually fine. You tend to drop directly down from the crux, so spotting as such isn't really required. That said, it would be very nice to have a platform!

Basically none - the crag faces the wrong direction for the drifts. Plenty about if you want to shovel some.

I'll probably take a spade tomorrow to move some snow around (please no UKIP style jokes).

Tom I don't think I have a pad stiff enough to do this, and I always feel very twitchy on this particular landing unless everything is totally optimum. I don't like uneven clattery landings with blocks in at the best of times. In the past I've found it better to fill the gap with a rolled up pad then pad over the top of it.

Both problems were fine at Mother Cap yesterday -  if a little hot in the sun. Some lads there had been to Millstone, Mother's Pet and Owler Tor and said they were all wet.
So we have Mother Cap, some of Burbage West, some of Derwent Edges and some of the plantation dry if you can get there.
Anyone been anywhere else ?
