Pip joint ganglion?
May 05, 2009, 12:23:51 pm
Hi all, waiting for a doc appointment, wondered if anyone else has encountered this. It's on my middle finger right hand. I have had problems with this joint in the past but not recently. It began to hurt last week after a bouldering session and I just noticed a small lump on the side of the finger just above the joint. The lump doesn't hurt , although the joint aches.
Anyone have a similar experience?

i've got something similar but on the next joint up (DIP?), middle finger, right hand. it's between the side and the top (back) of the finger. had it a few months now. it did ache a bit to begin with it's now generally fine. if i catch it on certain holds i think 'oh fuck, i've bust my finger' but it's always been fine the next day. i think it just puts pressure on whatever is going on there. might be different scene with pip joint though.

Did you lay off the climbing for long in order for this to settle down? .

There's a few things it could be, but you'll need to be more specific.
To be honest, seeing someone that knows is your best option.

that's the best advice, esp if you've an appointment pending.

no, but it wasn't sustained pain like 'normal' finger injuries, and i'd just had a couple of months off with a broken toe so there was no way i was taking time off with a finger injury.
