Does this actually exist? At the cove yesterday I may just have experienced this mysterious, mythical phenomena. It had just rained before my redpoint and the holds seemed twice the size they normally did, the friction perfect. 

What are the expected weather conditions for sticky damp to appear?

I've experiences sticky damp at Trowbarrow and at Stoney.  It always seems to be either when it's just rained, or when it's about to and temperatures drop.  It's good though!

Good topic. This issue needs to be explored and it needs more SCIENCE.

I don't know if I've experienced sticky damp per se - it seems to be more of a lime phenomena. But I think there is also a post shower freshness where chalk and grease have been cleaned off....so it's sometimes hard to know what's what in conditions science....

But at malham the routes very rarely get directy wet from rain, so there can't be any cleaning effect

No, it's not about holds getting wet, it's just the atmospheric conditions.

there is no real evidence for it, but it is scientific fact.

i had an experience of the sticky damp at the tor on monday! maybe thats why i felt so close to my first F8a
