Old Skool BMX's
March 12, 2009, 08:41:13 pm
This has just brought a tear to my eye :(  Original Supergoose

Fond memories of hanging round DIY BMX tracks cobbled together in local woods, bust noses and bleeding lips from going over the handle bars and scraped shins from the 'bear-trap' pedals. Bring back the good old days  :( :(

I remember the big boys riding up and down the back alley on these beasts...

Who's motorcycle is zis? Its a chopper baby. Who's chopper is zis? Stallioni's..

I say that, but thinking about it some more it was probably one of these..

Cool as fuck.

I used to have a Grifter.  The only downside was the blisters you used to get on the right thumb from the twist grip.

RAD, My first bike was a Mongoose, ill have to dig some pics out.
Could peddle backwards on it, which I thought was the hardest thing in the world at the time!

No trick-nugs on mine tho, they where for the big boys only!

I'm 9 all over again! Those seats that disintergrated in the rain, bicycle lights the size of bricks and corroded before the batteries ran out! Oh, and the blisters!!

What was the size down from the Grifter? Brown in colour. That was mine, but cannot for the life of me remember the name >:( >:(

Didn't see many choppers on my estate. Dunno why. One kid had a vektor. Which I liked but wasn't that fussed about it.

My first bike was a Raleigh Mini Burner. Loved the yellow and blue grips.

Wanted the upgrade (with the mag wheels)

when I got older but ended up with some shit wannabee thing. Can't remember it make/model.

Me and a mate of mine went to see this film and thought it was the coolest thing ever. Didn't even realise until now that it was Nicole Kidman in it! We were 9.

I still lust after old skool Haro Masters and stuff on ebay 20+ years after I stopped BMX!

I had a silver Grifter at first. I managed to bend the flimsy forks in a big crash off a jump aged 10. My mate also came a cropper on the same jump but his Grifter was more fcuked than mine. We were trying to show some kids on new fangled BMXs how hard we were by trying to get more air than they could. We took gigantic run ups and must have been in 3rd gear on take off- ate it massive style and the BMX kids were impressed enough to say 'it's ok, you can cry' as we lay battered and bleeding. We waited until we had limped out of range before allowing any tears to flow.

I then moved onto a red Burner, then a Mongoose Californian with Zytec mags, then a DP Freestyler with Skyways. The last BMX I owned was a PK Ripper but it was an old frame and pretty knackered.
Happy days.

Something a bit like this?

A local band of brothers used to go racing BMX's and had everything, the lightest fastest mothers you could buy. I so wanted a Puch and Hutchs like those guys, they were the coolest  They were also the ones with constant broken fingers, collar bones and missing teeth. Still cool little beggars

Yeah, totally love that green Master with the white Skyways! Think those were c.1985. I've still got a copy of Bob Haro's book 'Freestyle Moves' and wonder if it's worth anything? Even if it is/ isn't I'm not selling...
My favourite bike was my DP Freestyler which was a bit of a Haro/ Torker copy with its twin top tubes.

Mine was white with blue Skyways but you get the idea.
