Peregrine Falcon(s) above Helsby yesterday..

Had to walk underneath a bird-banned section of cliff with nesting peregrines on the way to go climbing last weekend. The mother had a good shout at us.

Not quite the same but there are Peregrines atop Trellick Tower just nearby.  It's funny hearing a familiar countryside sound in Zone 2.

Saw a few tortoiseshell butterflies in Fulwood last week, and the Endcliffe Park Heron just now.

I work in the tallest building in Munich, and I saw peregrines flying past the window quite regularly a couple of years ago. Don't know if they were nesting on our roof or somewhere else nearby.

I think they're pretty common in cities these days - perhaps even encouraged to keep the pigeon and other feral birds at bay.

I drove along the M40 on Thursday and the Kite population was impressive.

Yeah, that surprised me when I last drove through that way a couple of years ago.

There was a BBC news item (probably searchable) about Kites in suburban reading. People leaving meat out for them... Some impressive kite in back garden footage.

They were dead common where I lived near Aber. Woke up one windy morning and one was hovering (in the headwind) about 2m from my window. Impressive.

Saw a big furry critter swimming about at night in the brook by the Ile de Boulancourt campsite in Font. Anyone know what it might be? Looked like a water vole but maybe 20cm long. R.O.U.S?

Went for a walk around Hathersage / North Lees today and spotted a pair of yellow wagtails, a nuthatch and a peacock butterfly. Probably some kind of warbler as well but they all look the same!

Adders at Curbar apparently....

I think they are seen basking quite frequently in that little (quarried?) bouldering area at the far end.

Another fantastic otter sighting last night. It didn't notice us for a fair while so it floated there having a light bite until we got within three or four metres of it. By far the biggest one I've ever seen.

Spotted a Black Guillemot not far from home. Apparently quite unusual around these parts.

While at the Courtilles Du Lido site about a month ago I wandered off in the morning to take out the empties / clear my head and came face to face with a red squirrel!

Rare!  My girlfriend would love to see a wildcat, bobcat or lynx. (cat obsessed)  We're off to mull tomorrow for a couple of days - hoping to spot some otters.

I've seen a few big cats in the Cairngorms, unfortunately there aren't many thoroughbreds anymore.

Saw a wild boar last night in Verdon. Woke up by some heavy breathing half a meter from my ear. A boar was in the vestibule of our tent eating oatmeals. First time I've seen a wild boar close up. I think it's fair to say that I was more afraid of the boar than it was afraid of me. I made aggressive monkey noises and shone a light on it, it stepped back half a metre, allowing me to get to the car and get the stick-clip to wield as a club.

The only thing that worked when I had to chase a monkey out if my kitchen in India was using a camera monopod as a spear. It wasn't at all bothered by being threatened with chairs etc.
