I was in Suffolk at the weekend and saw a female Smew on Saturday at Minsmere. First one I've seen in the wild. Really nice to see.

I disturbed a colony of woodmice whilst doing some low skill landscaping in the garden

very cute watching them all dash about

first time I've seen a group like that (not surprising really)

I made sure their den was in one piece and have put in a marker so I don't disturb it again

I wouldn't say that, they might send these lot around if you hurt their feelings.

Spotted some otter poo, a trail and a hole out for a walk on Saturday, anyone got any beta on trail cams, or IR triggers for a DSLR.

Been a while. Great close encounter wth a peregrine on the seacliffs on Tuesday. Could have got a great photo, but spent too long dicking about geting long lens out and it got bored wating and buggered off.

I just saw a pair of Ospreys soaring above the house in Perthshire. After a bit of discussion with my lass and my mum we're pretty convinced. At first we thought they were seagulls as the wings were much more slender than an eagle, but looking at photos and videos online we're claiming Ospreys.  :clap2:

seagulls

No such thing! (twitching pedantry :))

Was watching a peregrine from the office window in Aberdeen city centre on Friday, we think it's nesting in the steeple of Gilcomston Church.

I sit next to a dedicated twitcher, and he always corrects me saying it's "gulls", not "seagulls", as in birding there is no such thing as a seagull, it's like saying "landrobin" or "landsparrow".

Seagull

We were wondering if it was a white tailed eagle but there was a strong step change in the profile of the wing half way along and the wings (wider at the outer portion) and they were too slender.

Wish I had a big lens!

Osprey sounds very likely from the description,  and they're about in perthshire.  Loch of the Lowes near Dunkeld is a well known place for seeing them.

I saw a hornet in Gloucestershire at the weekend- surprisingly big with a striking yellow face. Never seen one before and I wasn't even sure if we have them in the UK!

It actually landed on some flowers I was taking a close-up photo of. For a second I thought I was going to get a photo of it.

Then it flew towards me and I veered back like a little girl.

Hey, I really enjoyed that. The narration was really nice and natural and there was some good info in there. Would have been good to see the fledglings though!

Blacky, are you still rocking the bird-call CD in your car these days or have you calmed down in your old age? :tease:

I haven't seen or heard his CD yet Andy, but I did find a couple of heavily used Country File mags under his passenger seat the other day!!
