Saw a red squirrel at Kirrie last weekend, most impressive rock skills as it romped over the top bulges into the gorse, followed by some ninja antics tree to tree as it circumnavigated the quarry - for a transposed Peakie its a real treat to see these

Saturday saw a Ptarmigan and Mountain Hare both in full winter plumage/coats as we topped out in Corrie Fee in Glen Clova in foul conditions - common sightings up here but again relatively new to me. Still amazes me they can survive the winters up there quite happily!

Always see them when up there (apart from last time, as it was dark when we topped out), and always seems to be foul weather too.

great pics!

Drove over to Aviemore for a course yesterday, several encounters with white hares crossing the road, and a couple of deer crossing a bit to close to the front bumper to be comfortable.

A pair of Tawny Frogmouths have taken up residence in next doors front garden during the day (they hunt at night.) We've been aware that something big was flying around silently in the dark for a while but this was the first time we'd realised they were still around in daylight.

Eastern Rosella. They seem to like grazing the lawn when they are not stripping all the almond trees in the area during the early summer.

What do juvenile Australian Magpies do when it's 40 degrees and they are stuck in the shade doing nothing all day? Pull each others wing feathers out of course!

I work in a tall office building, and a pair of Peregrines seem to have taken up residence of the roof. Have seen them outside the window a few times in the last couple of weeks.

Surprisingly chilled (or ill) Hare at Almscliff today. It may of course be a big rabbit - but it was big - c.25-30cm long... Also saw a stoat/weasel (how do you tell them apart?)

Weasels are tiny - like a stretched mouse. Stoats have a slightly longer tail with a black tip, but I've always found the size the obvious thing (the books say they overlap but all I've seen have been markedly different.

Down in Abersoch at the mo. This evening, just at sunset, I saw a pod of Dolphins from the living room. Amazing.

Cool - it was tiny. Chestnut coloured with a white tummy.

I saw 2 Superb Lyrebirds yesterday. Not often you see one, let alone 2 together...

On the weasel front, we used to go to gorple a bit and a weasel used to trot alongside us as you first walk down the track off the road - followed us on lots of occasions and seemed quite friendly

Saw a seal on the way past harbour on way to work, stopped to take pictures, and pretty certain I saw an otter while waiting for the seal to surface. YYFY, never knew there were any inside the harbour, but looking closer it looks like an excellent habitat under the warfs (warves?) Got some good seal pics, and a very poor otter one.

Just seen a rather flustered looking woodcock flying through Hamilton Square in the centre of Birkenhead...

Saw a green budgie flying into the NCP Car Park in Aberdeen. Didn't see where it went. Bizzare.

Out taking moonlight photos on seacliffs last night, and had a close encounter with a fox. Remarkably unconcerned by my presence, took half a dozen photos at close quarters (4-5m) before it wandered off down the path. No doubt blinded by the flashes!

Saw a couple of Peregrine Falcons swooping through the gorge we were at near Canberra yesterday. Routes crag was still closed for nesting but bouldering at the base is ok. A mate was there 2 weeks ago and saw the babies fully feathered and trying to fly. None on the cliff this time. Only ever seen them flying in wide open spaces so very cool to see them swooping through and around the cliffs.

Driving from Hebden Bridge to Oxenhope, a flock - yes, a flock - of Curlew flew over the car. I had thought they were solitary birds!
