At the crag today had a adolescent Lyrebird checking things out. Watched me climb for abit then decided to do his calls. Their ability to perfectly imitate other noises never ceases to amaze me.... Very strange to hear a chainsaw sound come from a bird 20 feet away from you...

Careful, otherwise it'll start saying "That hold's shit, that's a hard move" and putting you off!

Because Will's jealous that they're better fishers than he is.

Have you heard them making the noise of a camera shutter? Brilliant. Sadly in the digital photography age the ones that make the shutter noise are dying out.

Yeah! They used to be abit more common around here as a kid.. Not as much now. Maybe they're just more cunning...

First ever Little Grebe on the River Warfe Saturday morning... Also, mooching through the undergrowth at Brimham on Sunday and suddenly found ourselves surrounded by a flock of Long Tailed Tits! Great views for the Noodle (4yo) and wife...

Little grebes are awesome aren't they? I saw a few at RSPB Saltholme the other day, they were my first little grebes too! Lots of various species of (mostly brown) ducks too and some cool little egrets. Then a mile up the road to see harbour seals with pups splashing around in the water and some grey seals having a sunbathe too.

I know! Just when you get your binoculars trained on them properly they disappear and reappear about 20 metres away!

Re Little Grebe's... Having got excited about seeing one in a relatively remote area of the Yorkshire Dales, I went for a stroll around Sefton Park with the wife yesterday and saw a pair with a youngster in tow! #urbanwildlife

Spotted a little egret flying off from the River Churnet just outside Leek today. Regularly see a heron along the same stretch, but this guy (or gal) was way more impressive in all it's white plumage.

Narrowly missed spotting a hoopoe in Bishop Auckland the other day, missed it by two hours! Plenty of migratory birds around. Half-tempted to skip work to go and see a glossy ibis which has turned up near Hartlepool!

If you were dedicated you would be on a charter flight to Shetland

A guy I work with flew up Saturday to try and see it.

Definitely a part-timer, now the weather's too crap to climb and I can't be bothered going to the wall to squeeze big blobs.

Andy. I'm speechless. How old are you?!

Well done for being the country's youngest proper bird spotter. You just need to get some adenoids to give your nerdy proclamations in the hide some real authenticity.

I doubt I'm the youngest Will, at the hoopoe hunt the other day was a teenager with his dad and plenty of others of all ages...

Trekked/hacked for hours through the bush today searching for new stuff.

Saw 2 goannas, couple of kangaroos, a Brown Snake and a turtle...

Didn't see this one until I was right under his tree and he started hissing loudly at me... Scared the shit out of me.

Nearly ran him over thinking it was a rock... Jumped out and carried him off the road (after he pissed all over my hands....).
