Think I saw one of the Sheff Uni peregrines on Tuesday night. All the other birds fucked off sharp-ish anyway.

Good link, I had no idea, I go past there loads so will have to keep the old mince pies peeled. And a big shout out to the perverts at Sheff Uni!  :shag:

Think I saw Ring Ouzels on Dow yesterday. Distinctive white tail with central black stripe, does that sound right?

No, that's a Wheatear. A Ring Ouzel is a fair bit bigger, basically a Blackbird in a cummerbund.

Quite a few very vocal Curlews (I think - can't think what other long-beaked bird it would be) out by Higgar Tor this weekend.

Grabbed some shots but haven't got them off the camera yet. Quite surprised to see them this far from the coast.

Curlews are quite common on high moorland, they possibly nest there? But not sure...

Good to see the Wheatears back! A sure sign that summer is here  :)

Loads of swifts around my local lake, love when they're all calling to each other...

Also went round Knowsley Safari Park on Monday and there were loads of Lapwings and Red-Legged Partridge!

Give us this day our daily buzzard. Same lamp post on the way to work every day for the last week. Right on a busy dual carriageway. I know if I went there with a camera it would disappear sharpish though :(

The young peregrine that is nesting on the St George's in Sheffield Town Centre tried to leave its nest last night.

Didn't get very far and is currently sat on one of the parapets not going very far at the moment.

Just been out to have a look, clearly visible.  Annoyingly I was going to bring my camera to work this morning but decided not to (might nip home to get it at lunch time).

If anyone wants to look approaching from Regents Street its on the right hand corner of the tower.

Very much so - see them regularly on the eastern edges. Hearing is more unusual as they tend to be more vocal around the nest, and I'm not sure if there's a nest anywhere round there.

Some snaps of the Peregrine Falcon on St George's next to Broad Lane yesterday.  When I went back after finishing work it had got off the ledge and flown to a higher perch further up the tower.

Couple of pics for Will of Ring Ouzel and Wheatear on Stanage showing its tail.

Saw a fair sized bird on callow bank last night. Brown wi a long curved beak, some black and white checkered fethers round the ass. Making two-tone call. Any fucking ideas etc?

Yeah probably one of them, didn't realise they came up on the moors.

Also on the top of stanage I saw out of the corner of my eye what must have been a hare (mountain or otherwise). Was too browny and small and fast to have been a sheep...and a mucky lamb seems unlikely.

Great day at Stanage Popular yesterday. Saw a female ring ouzel a couple of times, near flying buttress. Stayed away from the signposted off bit to the left, but I guess that is where she was heading. Also just to the right of eliminator and castle crack saw a wee wren come out of a crack and heard some squeaking so decided to look into the crack and there was a tiny wee nest with two hungry little chicks, mouths wide open waiting for more food. Mega cute!

Pod of dolphins (about 10 I'd say) joined us for ferry trip to Eigg last week.  Amazing and such a treat for the kids  :clap2:

(well chuffed with this 'capture' as I'm normally shit at taking photos.

Saw an amazing little flying insect yesterday on a wall in Neepsend. Did some googling and it turns out it was a ruby tailed cuckoo wasp Chrysis ignita .

(Not my photo)

Two wasp related postings in two days. Maybe my goose needs a new outfit!

Nice, Chrysidids are always a treat! Great website here:http://www.chrysis.net/index_en.php

SamT, I'm pretty jealous you went to Eigg even without the dolphins. What did you get up to?
