A first for me this morning, 4 kingfishers sat together;

I was well made up!

I'm still not climbing, having ankle operated on a week on Wed, so no climbing for a while!

great shot! and a beautiful location; i did my dissertation on the chemistry of the lakes there (many moons ago). it's an interesting place what with the (at the time) experimental remdial techniques used to regenrate the coal slag heaps - oh fuck that boring work bullshit, someone please save me from this hell....

Cheers everyone for the positive feedback.  Here's another shot of the same birds but this time all posing for the camera (just for you SA Chris).

But Dad it's not fair! by Brolly99, on Flickr

I'm looking at entering some shots into a wildlife comp and I've stuck a folder on my flickr stream called "comp photos?" any feedback as to which of those should go in would be most appreciated as they are my favs and it's hard to be objective.

Just had keyhole on my ankle and two bones shaved so I'm out of action for a while!

Cheers Ol

I was at Rubicon last night, walking along the path when I discovered a great tit chick sitting by the edge of the lake looking up at me!
I picked it up, held it in the palm of my hand and walked into the woods and set it down on the branch of a tree.
It hopped up towards the top of the tree calling as it went  :'(

Some recent ones of mine, taken on boat trip round the Summer Isles.

Seals, Shags and Stac

Seals

quite pleased with seals, esp as I was using a 400mm lens from a very wobbly boat.

I was trying to find the crag yesterday morning in some woodland near Bristol and and saw a couple of things. Maybe someone could help me identify them?

The first was a large deer. It was light, bright brown and had big ears. Is this a Roe deer?

The second was a hawk or an owl. It flew through the woods about 6 feet above the ground, very slowly, like it was coming in to land but it didn't. It was squawking but it's flight was silent. Was this a buzzard (do they fly through dense woods?) or could it have been an owl or a even a goshawk? The colour was as a buzzards, brown with some white. I didn't notice any patterning.

Hey up Oli

Quick Turn does it for me. A winner if I ever saw one.

Also Hey up Owl and Right Time Right Place have the cute factor

and love Ladybird Crack.

Good luck with the comp.

BTW what long lens are you using? When out with a mate the other day and quite fancy some wildlife photography and now looking to get something to stick on my 1D IV.

Cheers

Dave

I think it could be a goshawk. I think they are know for controlled flying through trees, I'm sure I saw it on a nature programme. Would love to see it. Sure someone with more expertise than I can confirm though. There are some vids of them flying on the tinterweb too.

Some wildlife snaps from a week in Brittany.  This bird seemed completely unphased by my presence...

Wandering through some woods to find menhirs I spotted this and just managed to get the camera out and snap a couple of shots before it turned and ran away...

Saw loads of wildlife in our week in Galloway. Roe Deer, Fallow Deer, Red Squirrel eating off the bird feeder outside along with all the usual garden birds, including a couple of nuthatches. Loads of birds by the river too; a few herons, dippers and grey wagtails always about. And we got a daily display of a raptor getting chased off by crows directly abouve the cottage.

Earlyish Sunday morning there was a herd of deer by the Froggatt layby. They didn't seem too bothered by me driving past. They behaved much like the sheep of the region. Cool to see.

I also had a close up encounter with a blackcap down at Rubicon. I walked and he flitted along side for a few moments. Not a bird I've seen up close for some years. This is all the more surprising because all other wildlife had left the area a few minutes earlier due to the earth-shattering yell from Measles' YYFY moment.

That white bird in Slakers' pics is a little egret - they occasionally make an appearance on the Don, right up to Sheff city centre. Not seen one yet this year, but I've been busy elsewhere. It'd be nice to get a photo of one in Wad-Town.

Yes it was back at Fairburn.  I think there's a fair chance that this is one of the juv's I took a shot of before (in the group).  When I took this I was treated to about 2.5 hours of 2 different kingfishers flying and diving around!
