dont quite get the remark that it's fully active , even when braking... but if it is... and such a high pivot gives such a stable squat then this is really something. A carbon defender over the shock and I reckon if the claims are all true it's an amazing machine.

just a heads up on wharncliffe...

the recent history of the place is complex... in essence the place has gone feral  from  a building point of view since the FE let the MTBers down / lied...

the last 4 years have seen a large volume of tracks... that were in the main shite.

The last 3 months has seen a sea change... the fast track has been loved to death. It's the best push up track I've ever ridden... though at present hideously wet. the new truffle shuffle & other lines off / through nemba are superb.

The whole hillside presents Itself as the best push up venue in England once dry IMO...

times change, I'm the only giffer there in full body armour, ( and I'm shit in comparison to the average rider these days)  I see 50 riders on a sunday morning.. 5 years ago I'd see 3.

what an amazing time to be riding this place....

news on gravity slaves.. i lost my login so I will post here.. not good for all the tracks.. on paper.. seems the loggers are going in big time.. however... If we carry  / take some spades i think  the net result will be a better draining.. . &  drying hill hill with the odd log with some dirt built over it as small kicker.. reckon it will be to the overall benefit to the place.... then they will leave the place alone!

Received an email about Peaty's Steel City Downhill so thought I'd post it up here for anyone who's interested:

Sheffield’s own multiple world cup downhill champion Steve Peat is helping to organize the cities first official Mini Downhill race, the inaugural Steel City series event. In aid of the Greno Woods appeal a Mini DH will be held in Grenoside woods on the 5th March. Open to all from 10 years up, the race track is fast and flowing which would suit mid travel trail bikes and riders who can carry speed.

Professional timing will be provided by MIJ Events with prizes from Royal, Sram, 18 bikes, The Bike Tree, O’Neal, Polaris, Five Ten, Cotic, Chromag, Smartwool, Monster, Arcteryx and many more. The event will be filmed and broadcast by http://www.facebook.com/l/5ae39nWKrtukuZxjtDNcOPAKUtQ;Freecaster.tv who will also sponsor an amateur video and photo contest.

Details and entry at http://www.facebook.com/l/5ae3908iSTHWwFubd8sIT6JyPZA;StevePeat.com/SteelCityDH, organized by http://www.facebook.com/l/5ae39yo76taEL2Q1iO4Q-dWflfg;ThisiSheffield.co.uk

further race entires will be , in small numbers, made available the week before for Greno on the 5th. sounds rammed full, with national interest aplenty. 90 second run, flowing and OK on a AM rig. gutted to have missed out, though looks like this will be the start of an ongoing series of events... next time we should get it together and do a UKB team entry.

Well, keeping up my rep for bike disintegration I've bust my raceface cranks... come loose ( nice to find that out a the top of a run at wharncliffe), now cant tighten or free them... thankfully I know they can come out... I took em off a few months ago... I've given up the knuckle wrenching fight and given the bike to the biketree. The play in the back end has got worse too.. though some new shock hardware should cure this, either that or the frame is ovalised or the shock poorly,... great.

Its doc, the fatdoc.

Oh sorry the bike.  Could be any one of the multitude that he owns really I'd have thought   ;D

If he didn't leave them all to co-exist in his cellar then they might come back out of there the same they went in.  There are dark forces at work in fatdoc's cellar I'm sure.

Had two days in the Forest of Dean over the weekend, a proper mud bath butthere are loads of trails that would be wicked fun in the dry, the uplift is really efficient and its well worth a visit come summertime.

It could even be twinned with a visit to the mother of all shitholes...... Symonds Yat......if one was to be masochistic.

Tracks are pretty short, someone reckoned cwmcarn was about 3 times as long.  Nothing gnarly just swoopy stuff with little jumps, tables, drops etc, I rode my hardtail and managed everything without any drama. Usually 15-16 runs in a day of uplifts apparently (I was with my lad so we did a lot less than that). No vids, could'nt be bothered as the weather was awful. Will deffo be going back when the weather is better.

Oh and there is a new track currently being built that looks like it will be ace: berms, tables a proper mini A line.
