Did my other ankle up at Robin Hood's Stride on Saturday. Got there, just warming up, went to look at a problem, foot slipped off a rock I was standing on, bang, all twisted and sprained etc. At least Almscliffe let me have a full day before bitch-slapping me.

Wonderful.

That's both ankles in less than a year now and I'm supposed to be going up to Scotland next week.

Still at least this time isn't so bad, I'm walking on it a bit now and the swelling is already going down and at least I already know all the physio stuff from last time.

Ah well, best get  the pull-up bar out again.

So, yesterday I had the whole evening to myself - first time in a long time. I headed out straight from work. I was feeling a bit weak and slow; a bit like wading through treacle. I decided that I was too tired to carry a pad around. The obvious thing to do was do loads of easy stuff without a pad.

20 problems into the session saw me on west face of The Pebble. Easy for us people of reasonable stature.

On the reach for the top, my back felt odd. I got to standing OK. My arms lost a lot of feeling and most of their strength - especially the left side. I felt dizzy. I had a brief panic that I was having a stroke; I wasn't. The easy mantle on to the top of the boulder was impossible. My arms wouldn't work. I couldn't reverse the move. I couldn't even traverse off.

Fortunately there was someone with a pad within shouting distance. They came over and rescued me.

Rescued from The Pebble FFS

I'm not sure what I'm most annoyed about: the pain/tweak (which is getting better), the loss of a valuable evening on rock, or not even asking the name of my rescuer due to my confused state.

If you're reading this, thanks again.

I'm glad I didn't go with my original plan of doing routes.

A consolation night in The Broadfield and subsequent hangover has helped a bit.

Merrily riding down the Otley Road when some tit in his van turns left across the cycle lane. Slammed on the brakes but not enough time to stop completely. Not sure exactly what happened but I caught most of the impact on my lower ribs and ended up on the ground in front of the van. Mainly just got the wind knocked out of me but now have a very tender right hand side, just in time for peak crushing season  :wall:
Told the guy to check his mirrors in future; he claimed he did. Well I didn't just appear out of thin air did I?

Bastard. Call the dibble and at least inconvenience the fuxker..  That's the type of incident where most cyclists get killed (albeit trucks turning left)..

Did you get his details. This happened to me recently when this young presumed I was turning left like she was.At first I thought no big deal just a couple of grazes and my bar tape and saddle scuffed a couple of weeks later realised the impacted had fucked the bonding round my bottom bracket.Which meant my carbonfibre frame was now a piece of useless plastic. Luckily I got her details and now have a solicitor making a claim for me.

I did get the guys contact details and the details of some of the witnesses. The bike seems as good as it was when it went down, although what happened to yours is quite scary. To be honest so long as the bike is OK then I'm not too bothered about the hassle of getting the police involved.
Interestingly my housemate got knocked down very badly a week or two ago, hospital visits and crutches and everything. The bike was fooked and the driver's insurance company is paying out for a new one. However, at the scene of the accident (when it wasn't known if she had broken her leg or not and she was being packed into an ambulance) the police wanted to know if she was going to press charges and told her that if she said no then then she may not be able to choose to later on! Surely you can't just forgo your right to justice at the scene of an accident when you might not yet have recovered full mental faculty let alone know the full extent of the damage done?

What I have been told is you won't get a new bike. i.e. if your bike is 2 years old you will get the replacement value of a 2 year old bike.
What you have to hope is what you get for the personal injury bit will add up to the cost of a new bike.

When I got knocked down, it was the police who made the decision to press charges or not. TBH, I wouldnt bother pressing charges unless he driver was a total tool.

It might be a bit late now, but for any accidents resulting in injury don't deal directly with the insurance company. Talk to someone like bikeline, they are specialist solicitors dealing with bike injury claims. I got at least 4K more compensation by using them than if I had dealt direct. Your friend sounds like she should definitely talk to them.

Not bouldering related, but the freezer died so I've lost my pre-prepped curry ingredient store.  All my frozen Dorset Nagas, Scotch Bonnets, Naga Morich, and all the fresh herbs and galangal etc etc.  Gutted.   :'(

"doing a Sloper"

Which is definitely not a good diet, unless you're training for a bout of gout.

Unlucky man. What you wanting to do?
If you get desperate apply to Huddersfield they seem to accept most people. About 1 hour drive from the peak, some local stuff, about 1.5 hours from almscliff.

Yup - was it Grades/predictions? With regards to new applicants - in the middle ground its a buyers market at the moment, many universities are lying on their backs legs apart at the moment...
