A while ago Ansys took over Fluent, in doing so they ripped the carpet out from underneath me by removing my standalone academic license. In doing so they promised a University wide license that would grant me the same privileges, this isn't yet working.
No sweat, I can run a 'version' at home. No I can't, as now my dekstop is f*cked. Oh well, then there's the university grid computing system for batch processing, its more hassle for small jobs but I can use that. Oh wait a minute, is that another licensing f*ckup, indeed it is. So now I have absolutely no way of progessing my work until one of the above is rectified. All this just as my funding expires. Fantastic.

Almscliffe claimed my right ankle as a trophy on Saturday afternoon. Hospital doesn't "think" I've broken anything and suspects I've wankered the ligaments (my words not theirs) but as its ridiculously swollen they can't really be sure, either way it looks like a fat old diabetic American's ankle and I won't be climbing for a while.

I'm not totally sure as it was the first time I've climbed there but I think it was on the Ed's Dyno block opposite The Keel, I was just warming down trying some eliminates on it, heel slid off, took me with it and landed heel on the edge of the mat with the rest of my foot off, momentum and gravity did the rest and left me looking like someone had shoved half a tennis ball under my skin. Still, manned it up and walked back down to Wheeton station.


Jim - They did xray but seemed pretty non-committal about about whether I'd broken anything, used expressions such as "As far as we can see/tell", "Doesn't look like its broken", "We'll know for sure when the swelling's gone down" all led me to the conclusion they couldn't tell from the xray due to the swelling.

I've whacked my hip plopping off the 6c traverse on that block (one of my favourite Almscliff shuffles) so my sympathies... I think when the swelling dips down you'll know if its been bust or not.... in the meantime RICE...

NNFN, busted a finger last night at the wall. A4 pulley went with quite a bang - the Mrs thought I'd pulled a hold off the wall!

Absolutely gutted as I have been going quite well recently.

Update on my ankle for any that's interested:

Definitely not broken, damaged ligaments though, Doc reckons about 4 to 6 weeks until I'm back on track but then I'll have to give it longer to fully heal. Gotta have physio too, joy of joys! Its annoying but considering what I did and where I did it it could've been a hell of lot worse. Especially whilest waiting to be seen and glancing around and seeing people with missing legs etc, put my injury into perspective I must say.

Oh well, guess I'll be dusting off the Iron Gym for a while and upping my post count on here!

The skin on that finger was fully fresh, I tried to hold a swing on a fingerjuggy type hold (inside) and I just about did...right up until the skin blew and I fell off.

Already looks loads better - little bit of climbon and some covering works marvels.

Going back today to try and finish it off. I hope it holds up

I was hoping to but this in the YYFY thread, but alas;

After an 18 month lay-off from climbing due to lack of motivation and training for other events, I finally get my mojo back and hit the local walls this week - YYFY 

However, whilst taking it easy and pottering on some easier routes (a slabby little number that required a press down in order to get my foot on the same hold as my hand) I somehow managed to crack a tendon in my thumb - NNFN   

Guess it's the price you pay for putting on a little extra pud!
