I admit i may not have fitted it to perfection, and i may or may not resemble a pregnant lady (in a very little britain kind of way..... but hey it has great freedom of movement (it is rather body tight).

I managed to cut off the top of my right hand thumb with a circular saw on saturday evening. The bone was too badly damaged for it to be sewn back on so its gone  :(
Talked to fatdoc last night who gave me some good painkiller advice but it will be months (dont know how many yet) before I can climb again
feeling pretty low so would welcome any stories anyone has come across where climbers lose part of digits and come back stronger, fitter better etc...or even can just climb again OK

Tommy Caldwell is the obvious one for cutting his finger off... doesn't seem to be holding him back.

Nooo, that really is a NNFN!

How much have you got left? Is it gone back to the first joint?

I guess it'll affect pinching and full crimping but in the long run I doubt it'll make much, if any difference to most problems/routes. (Unless you love tufas...)

As long as you get the wound well healed you'll be able to modify your pinch technique and use what's left. Chin up dude, could been worse!

I doubt you'll need too long off climbing, just don't use your thumb

Even if you can't climb, I'd imagine you can still do pull-ups and fingerboard.

Ouch, sorry to hear that Dolly.

Lots of mountaineers have lost digits to frostbite, perhaps a shift in that direction?  :P

Bummer mate bad news. I can at least recommend trying not to hitch hike ;).

Saw a guy at Joe's Valley who had the half his pointer finger missing who was doing V9/10 without trying too hard. I thought it was Tommy C at first, but he spoke like a hick and his girlfriend was a full munter, so couldn't have been him.

A word of warning to me though, as I am about to embark on bouldering wall manufacture, and not known for being "good with tools". Might saw everything by hand, at least it will be good exercise.

Just think of the massively increased pinch strength due to a shorter lever   8)

Cheers for the replies.
I er... won't be taking up mountaineering I don't think ( I did walk up to White Ghyll 2 weekends ago though -  does that count ?)
Its just above the first joint.  I haven't had a look since I did it so I don't know how much is left. Stitches come out on Tuesday so I might look then...

Good luck with the thumb mate - Tommy C proves suffice inspiration - hero!

Had a proper NNFN day myself:
So two A2 pulleys have gone, along with both elbows showing signs of tendonitis (both due to a lot of time in the woody and pretty new to bouldering).
Got food poisoning.
My Disco's brakes failed on me due to wheel bearings - then the b*tard wouldn't even start...new d cap, plugs and leads needed...this also means I missed two days of work - whereby I didn't get paid!
NNFN!

Mate of mine was missing a pec - from birth. Doctors warned his parents that he might be quite limited physically and should start some rehab as an infant so he could countenance a normal functional life.
I think the rehab idea was a success. He climbed upto 8c. Body parts are obviously not always as essential as they would have you believe.

None climbing NNFN, but some cunt walked into my house while I was in it (during the day) and nicked my bike. I spent £350 on it, and some bastard walks off with it in a second.  :wall:

I still haven't looked properly myself yet.
Got my first visit to OT this afternoon so I might have to look at what I'm doing then.
Do you really want me to post pics ? I don't think it will look very nice TBH

Can't deny I would like to see it in a gruesome rubbernecking way. Reminds me of when you ripped out your nipple ring which IIRC got caught in a mohair jumper that you took off.

NNFN

I'm currently in bed looking at the days tv schedule rather than down the pool having a nice swim to warm up for some sport this eve.

Visited Rock Over Climbing yest to check it out and in my eagerness havedone something to my back (despite warming up and stretching well for once) Properly put it out, had to catch a taxi back across sheff from train station as couldn't walk it.

In bed with some frozen veggies at mo, (well soggy veg now) hoping its days not weeks or months. It's around the base of my back which is never a good thing, and walking makes it clunk a bit. Turning over in bed is fairly slow and painful, but at least i slept last night!
