Single rope recommendations.
January 15, 2009, 07:48:09 pm
Tis that time of year were thoughts start wandering to the limestone cliffs of both home and abroad. It's been a few years since I've needed to invest in a rope so I'm on the look out for a replacement for the dusty old faithful.

Has anyone got any recommendations for a hard wearing, reasonably lightweight rope, perfect for lots of failed redpoint attempts :-[

I have heard lot of good things about Infinity ropes. Specially the durable bit....

I've got an old 10.5 infinity (can't remember which model), has served me well for the last 3 years through a fair bit of falling off stuff and shunting trad routes back at avon. Just got a new 70m tendon master 9.7 for long euro sport onsighting shizzle, can't give a durability review having only had it since christmas, but liked it on a trip to chorro over the last couple of weeks.

Recently got one of the 9.2mm and it also seems pretty good.  Again can't comment on durability, but handling was good, though downside is it can feel a bit odd with a grigri so did end up using a reverso3 quite a bit.

Another big up to infinity, got a 10.5mm 60m and seems to be lasting well compared to other ropes i've used.

Did you use the Tendon Master 9.7mm rope with a gri-gri? I would expect the 9.2 to be a bit on the slim side, was just wondering if 0.5mm made much difference.

Yeah, it was fine with a gri gri. I used a 9.4 (not sure what make/model, it was one this guy we were climbing with had) on some stuff in ceuse and tarn in the summer and that seemed fine with the gri gri too, though it did feel a bit scary at first!
