I hate to say it, but it would be a waste going to the cliff at the moment, pretty much every bit of grit in Yorks is dry right now!

Good today - but (even for Almscliff) windswept, bleak and muddier than usual on the walk up...

I nearly gave up after trying to warm up twice ~ but a couple of other brave people turning up made me stick around... (hello and good to meet you if you read this!)

Bizarrely, I watched my fingers uncurl from the crimp on DWR due to the cold - was like seeing my hand fail in slow motion! Pull harder, crimp harder I told my hand - and nothing happened!!

Does anybody have any up to date beta on whether the bridge at Pool is open and passable? Saw some fairly dramatic photos this morning which indicated a deep pool of water on the cliff side of the bridge.

Look for the red lines on Google maps on your phone/web. Clearly shows if a road is impassable (dark red = blocked/stationary).

Is that based on live location data?

Also found this good twitter bot account for the stage gauge in the bridge.

Sadly this didn't work at all last night, just orange everywhere, I guess because people just turn around rather than sit there. We were driving from Ilkley to Sheffield and ended up blocked by water numerous times, eventually managed to cross the Aire on the Bingley old road which was maybe a foot under on one side.

As for the Cliff, nobody was getting anywhere near Otley / Pool from Ilkley last night (A660 flooded in numerous places apparently) but I don't have anything more up to date. I've never seen anything quite like what we saw in the Wharfe or Aire valleys last night before, it's so much higher than any previous flood I've seen.

If a road is blocked to all traffic then Google shows nothing

Best site for flood data is: http://apps.environment-agency.gov.uk/river-and-sea-levels/default.aspx

Fascinating, the levels at Ilkey last night were high but a way off record breaking, whereas at Pool bridge and further downstream they were setting a new high (although only a few centimetres above the last record set as recently 2012).

Google maps sent me down a closed motorway last month. 'Kin useless.

Edit: Oof, York looks fucked.

I've been at the cliff today. I drove from Wetherby and the others came from Skipton and Harrogate with no problem. The Harewood bridge is open and there was lots of traffic going towards Pool so I'd assume it is open.
Wellies for the approach field are useful!

Anyone heard if the bouldering is dry today? Probably the most likely place to be dry...

It should be. Yesterday it was soaking. Stiff breeze all day. Grim. I reckon its global warming that has stripped the cliff of its super power

Down grade everything two notches to reinstate the forcefield.

(Apart from the Keel) :)

Do you mean the keel or the 'TT keel variant'?

Anybody care to hazard a guess if anything will be dry this evening? I haven't been before but have a late pysio appointment in Yeadon. Forecast looks fairly poor but not raining yet in Hudds. I'm guessing it's my best chance of getting something done.

Its due to rain this afternoon evening... if it dries up or is showery then its worth a punt. Bits of it dry in 30-60 min if theres a wind (which there normally is)..

You must be looking at a more optimistic forecast, the one I looked at said showers all day, heavy until 1400.

Yr no saying 0mm of rain. BBC says rain all day. Might stick closer to Sheffield because if I drive up there it's guaranteed to be the latter!
