I used to set my tutees an essay to explore this.. They always started anti nuclear power, and having researched the number of deaths associated with air quality and mining/extraction many changed their minds...

There are big question marks over the impact of Chernobyl in terms of mortality (official figures are ludicrously small) and of course the legacy of a nuclear accident can last for much much longer etc..

Much to the detriment of a good story, this new ratification doesn't really mean anything other than the state can be officially seen to be against slavery. Apparently once a three quarters majority of states ratify an ammendment it becomes federal law, applying to all states.
