The irony, I didn't even read that as an intentional mis-spelling (damn mind thinking it knows better than my eyes!).

I must admit I like the phrase "The Iron Law of Nitpicking"

[Though my iniitial comment wasn't - it was a genuine complaint that I find the phrase "Brit" offensive and insulting.

You wouldn't use it for other nationalities, would you - especially not in the context of something as serious and harrowing as this?]

That's weird. This is the first time I've even heard of "Brit" being considered offensive. Maybe it's an English thing?

Like I said, I found it offensive.

Try replacing the word with "Saffers","Aussies", or "Yanks" in the same sentence and context, and see how it reads to you.

The dopey bint* on Manc* news used Brit three times this lunchtime... ;)

Personally I find Brits a bit naff, but not offensive.. Better than cockney wanker or lanky streak of piss that are the normal friendly greetings hurled in my direction..

*additional sarcasm and humour made by using words probably pejorative to women and people from Manchester (just in case you didnt get it...)
** I am being a nob, deliberately.. ;)

Are you really offended by Brit? I get called Saffer all the time, and had no idea that anyone could conceive it of being Offensive. Likewise Aussie, Kiwi, etc.

Yanks is difference as it can be seen as offensive as it is an abbreviation of Yankee, which refers to the Confederate soldeirs.

It's PC gone mad I tell you.

Anyway, it's Lard Galore time in Arbroath.

Cholesterol levels are set to skyrocket, as lardmania hits the east coast.

Like I said - I was offended by it.

It's a diminuitive, and as such I regard its use as a mechanism to belittle people.

[And to marginalize, label, and stereotype people]

Her CV says
I am communicative, reliable, honest, self-motivated and hardworking person. I am responsible, punctual and dutiful. Creative, open to new ideas and ready to embrace new experiences.

I have issues with this statement. Ironically, she's just made herself less employable, and therefore, more likely to carry on sponging from the state.

Just like the "Pakis" should?

Because the more I have thought about this, the more I am really annoyed.

It's gross pig-ignorance, and insulting to the fact there's people who've lost loved ones and friends here, and a news source can't even pay them the courtesy of referring to them with dignity on their passing.

Do something about it?  Contact the Sky news desk and let them know?

BRIT in this case actually stands for "Boring Relatively Indie-ish Toss" awards.

Have done.

However, in the grand scheme of things I think there are more important things to worry about or upon which to devote my not inconsiderable campaigning influence.

Can't think of anything that can possibly go wrong here -

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/palaeolithic-park-harvard-professor-seeks-adventurous-woman-to-give-birth-to-baby-neanderthal-8460273.html

A Harvard professor is looking for an "adventurous" woman to give birth to a baby Neanderthal.

Quote
As well as the ethical concerns of creating a neo-Neanderthal, scientists believe the resultant baby could lack immunity to modern diseases, and may not survive.

There are further concerns that the process might lead to deformities, and there are also obvious risks to the surrogate mother.

Bioethicist Bernard Rollin of Colorado State University has voiced his uncertainty over how a Neanderthal would fit into the modern world.

He said: “I don’t think it’s fair to put people... into a circumstance where they are going to be mocked and possibly feared.”

And Philippa Taylor of the Christian Medical Fellowship said: “It is hard to know where to begin with the ethical and safety concerns.”
