It seems to be official.

Most people are cunts, it would appear.

Should benefit claimants be prevented from spending the money given to them by the state on alcohol, gambling, cigarettes and other "vices"?

A poll commissioned by think tank Demos suggests most people would support such a move.

And here's Demos' own website on that self-same story:

http://www.demos.co.uk/press_releases/majority-support-government-control-of-how-people-spend-benefit-payments

Quote
Demos’s Deputy Director Claudia Wood said: 'These findings paint a worrying picture of a nation divided between welfare claimants and the rest.

“It suggests that many now view the welfare state as a form of charity towards the poor rather than social insurance for all. If the majority still saw the welfare state as an insurance scheme - a contract of protection in return for contribution - then people would be more supportive of autonomy for benefit claimants.”

Hurrah for Theresa May!

British computer hacker Gary McKinnon will not be extradited to the US, Home Secretary Theresa May has announced.

Mr McKinnon, 46, who admits accessing US government computers but claims he was looking for evidence of UFOs, has been fighting extradition since 2002.

The home secretary told MPs there was no doubt Mr McKinnon was "seriously ill" and the extradition warrant against him should be withdrawn.

Now how come any of our previous Home Secretaries since 2002 couldn't decide that?

Mrs May said the sole issue she had to consider was his human rights.

Right, those human rights you are also trying to repel Mrs May?  Make your mind up you hypocrite.  :wank:

Credit where it's due. Well done David Burrowes.

This is what MPs are supposed to do, represent and stand up for their constituents. He may be a Tory cunt but in putting his job on the line for the sake of doing the right thing by one of the people he was elected to serve he's shown a rare glimpse of how politics is supposed to work.

Well done.

Excellent! Reminds me of a class I used to teach on Visual Basic programming where I got the students to make a little windows box with "I am thick" with a yes and no button. When you hovered over the no button the text changed to yes etc.. :)

Quote
A former Home Secretary has accused Theresa May of blocking Gary McKinnon's extradition to serve her Conservative party.

Alan Johnson, who served as Home Secretary under Labour from June 2009 to May 2010 said: "Gary McKinnon is accused of very serious offences.

"The US was perfectly within its rights, and it was extremely reasonable of them, to seek his extradition.

"We now do not know whether Gary McKinnon will ever have to face justice on those accusations."

He added: "The Home Secretary has made a decision today that's in her own party's best interest; it is not in the best interests of the country."

What a good job then, she's acted in the best interests of Gary McKinnon.

Double standards at work.  Babar Ahmad and Talha Ahsan were extradited to the US two weeks ago for similar offences and Ahmad has Aspergers.  McKinnon committed some serious wrongdoing and should still face trial in the UK.

I agree. Sadly it all feels a bit daily mail, white UK terrorist suspect stays at home, non white terror suspects deported to USA....

From what I can see from the media their motivation seems maybe different(if we assume guilt), but im not sure the points of law are.

Can't disagree.

Spot anything here in the headline which is somewhat at odds to the second half of the story here?
