Despite my cynism of a few pages back, I'm really starting to enjoy this now. Politicians, corrupt police, dodgey journalists, news corp all getting it is fantastic - now if Alex Ferguson could also be implicated it would be perfect.

The Met have admitted that last year they employed Neil Wallis the NOTW journalist who has now been arrested. He was paid £24k for "consultancy work" by the department in charge of the first hacking enquiry.

Bit of light relief as Murdoch biographer and US media expert Michael Wolff gets mistakenly asked about baseball........

Another bit of shuffling and now it turns out that Rupert and James Murdoch will give evidence to the committee on Tuesday after all:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/blog/2011/jul/14/phone-hacking-scandal-live-coverage#block-67

James has dual US/UK citizenship - so maybe they could have forced him anyway?

So, Tuesday will be a proper  day for all us 'news' fans. Can't wait!

Quote from: Rebekah Brooks
At News International we pride ourselves on setting the news agenda for the right reasons. Today we are leading the news or the wrong ones.

The reputation of the company we love so much, as well as the press freedoms we value so highly, are all at risk.

As Chief Executive of the company, I feel a deep sense of responsibility for the people we have hurt and I want to reiterate how sorry I am for what we now know to have taken place.

Awful grammar for someone that is in charge of a media group!!

I'm sure her severance package will be comfortable and she'll soon pop up somewhere else.

She was the firewall protecting James; watch as Rupert steps in to defend the heir to his throne. This could get even messier, especially now that various US politicians and the FBI are on the trail too.

 I never knew I had such an appetite for popcorn.

Tuesday will be interesting, particularly after Brown's bizarre ( and dishonest ) grandstanding in the Commons on Wednesday.  He and Murdoch will be at each others throats.

Bigger and bigger..... The end of Fox News?

If that happens, and the whole Fox network goes tits up I hope The Simpsons find a new home/network.

Pic of the couple from Lardgs who won all the cash.

Looks like they plan on spending it on more pies.

Also which one is which?

At least their ambition only extends to "standing at the foot of Ayers Rock" rather than climbing up it.

On Newsnight on Wednesday Times journo Daniel Finkelstein was pushing the bogus idea that ordinary people beyond the London media/political circus didn't really care about the phone hacking issue or the political fall out from it. Obviously he would say that (Murdoch does pay his salary after all), but check this out:

http://survation.com/2011/07/survation-progressive-polling-news-corporationnews-international-survey/

A very worrying read for Cameron too.

Can't be good news for Cameron if the Daily Telegraph is prepared to stick the boot in

Think I might have mentioned this before but BORIS JOHNSON IS A CUNT:

http://torytroll.blogspot.com/2011/07/what-boris-johnson-really-thinks-about.html

Worth repeating again!

He's not alone!

Quote
Foreign Secretary William Hague has defended David Cameron, saying he was "not embarrassed" by the extent of the PM's dealings with News International.

Mr Cameron has met its top executives 26 times in the 15 months since he became prime minister, it emerged.

They really don't like him, do they?

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/damianthompson/100097240/rebekah-brooks-arrested-get-out-of-this-one-dave/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

Quote
Rebekah Brooks arrested: get out of this one, Dave

Now Sky News has confirmed that the 43-year-old woman is indeed Rebekah Brooks, disgraced former CEO of News International and member of David Cameron’s social circle. I suppose I should say former member of Dave’s circle, but Andy Coulson was at Chequers soon after he left Number 10 in disgrace, so who knows?

How very, very badly all this reflects on the PM. It will be difficult to vote Tory at the next election.

It's fascinating watching murdickgate happening from over here... Every morning I check the papers and there's another revaltion. It's not mainstream here yet (sorry, in states) but the closure of the notw was topnbilling a few days back.

Stephensons resignation was all the more interesting given his cloaked stab at Cameron along the lines of 'I resigned as I made a bad call about someone working for me - unlike you davo..' referring of course to Coulson. And the timing was interesting - just as daveboy is on a plane to s.Africa for a few days..

I can't see this bringing cameron down, but it will remove any veneer of him being new, different, honest, upright etc.. He's a crony to his pals like most/all politicians..

It'll be interesting to see how this spreads arund the world.. In that now all UK politicians are criticising Murdoch press instead of kissing their arse.. Will the tide start to turn againt Fox in the us? Or the ( much worse) Australian situation?

Interesting times, I can't wait to see what's happened by tomorrow morning here!
