They work for you - MPs line up to assert they believe in the assumption of guilt rather than the presumption of innocence.

http://www.parliament.uk/edm/2010-11/1393

Quote
That this House acknowledges that many other European countries have much better cyclist and pedestrian safety records than the UK; recognises that these countries apply the principle of stricter liability to vulnerable road victims, so that drivers of vehicles that hit cyclists or pedestrians are assumed liable unless they can prove their innocence; believes that this makes drivers more aware of the vulnerability of children, cyclists and pedestrians; notes that, in contrast in UK road traffic personal injury cases, the burden of proof is on the victim to prove the other party was negligent; is aware of research that shows the fatality rate of cyclists aged 10 to 14 involved in collisions with motor vehicles is five times worse in the UK than in the Netherlands and Sweden; and calls on the Government to bring road traffic personal injury legislation into line with workplace health and safety law, product liability law and car passenger protection by adoption of the principle of stricter liability.

You'll never complain about the standard of your MPs over there after reading this little piece by a newly elected member of the NSW upper house. The debate he was speaking in had nothing to do with climate change but this  :wank: stood up and delivered this amazing heap of  :shit: anyway! He's a good example of the kind of nutter who can slip under the radar in a PR election (used in all upper house elections in Oz.)

Yeah, there's been a few topical bets floating around lately - when the ash cloud was back a well-known bookie was offering bets on your flight being cancelled and trying to sell it as "insurance"...spin at its best!

While we're on the topic, was interested to see that "Dead Cert Man":

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3605879/Dead-cert-punters-23-winners-on-the-trot.html

got a spanking on Friday night:

I've seen people on Betfair doing similar stuff with massive sums on the tennis but generally trading in-play to get a guaranteed profit as soon as possible. Thing is with tennis (or any 2 horse race type event) it only takes a second for a red hot favourite who's cruising to victory to turn their ankle and retire, game over. If you've got £50k on to try to win £2k that could be a real sickener.

It's a bit like people who take the 1.01 on offer at the end of every football match, hoping that there wont be a last minute goal. Of course, there sometimes is and that £8k to win £80 banker doesn't look so clever.....

Indeed - and IIRC one of Dead Cert man's 1/100 shots (think it was the Isner match) went to 5 sets, wouldn't have wanted to sit through that with £58k riding on it for a £500 reward!

Squeaky bum time for sure!

Yes "Dead Cert Man" was just a mug punter who got lucky for while with massively odds on "bankers". As with any such strategy, you're only going to get lucky for so long and it only takes one loser to pretty much wipe out your bank.

Just a bit of free publicity for the bookies really as this sort of shit goes down on the exchanges every day.

A tip from a woman claiming to a be a psychic prompted Texas authorities to swarm a rural home searching for a nonexistent mass grave and up to 30 bodies, including those of dismembered children.

A few hours later it was clear the tip was nothing more than a wild goose chase.

An interesting read. This means I can carbon offset my car mileage by killing four camels a year!

The Dambusters dog N****r will be renamed Digger for a modern remake of the iconic film to avoid offending American viewers, it has emerged.

Script writer Stephen Fry, 53, has confirmed that pilot Guy Gibson's faithful black Labrador will be renamed for the forthcoming Peter Jackson movie.

In the original 1955 film Gibson's dog's name was spoken 12 times as a code word to report successful dam breaches to RAF Bomber Command

Quelle surprise - the Daily Wail gets upset about what in reality amounts to both halves of fuck all. No Sleep 'til Brooklands covered this the other day in this here article while making a few salient oints along the way such as:

Quote from: No Sleep 'til Brooklands
Just think of all the children who would have raced upstairs after dinner that evening to listen to The News Quiz, without an adult to put the joke into context for them. Lord only knows where they'll be in 10 or 15 years' time. It's almost too terrifying to contemplate. I only hope they discover drugs, unprotected sex and knife crime first, rather than face a world of teenagers making faintly risque jokes that you've heard a dozen times before about politics. On Radio 4. Who could bear that?
