Yes! It's the welcome return of KUUUUNTZ KORNERRRRR!!!

Passer-by pushes suicide man off bridge

Lai Jiansheng, Come on down!!*

* actually. It's Chen Fuchao who "came on down". But, hey. What the hell.

Edit. wtf? That story is 2 years old. yet it's on the front page of the BBC's news video feeds.

I'm glad I'm not paying a licence fee to put money in to fund this mob of charlatans.

Apparently what's holding back the economy is the difficulty of firing the workforce, or tories-back-bosses-vs-workers'-rights-shocker. Not.

  :guilty:  First time I'd seen it though, hilarious.  The kid in the other story is quite smart and props to him for doing it.

Haven't you got some documents to sync?

Last WW I Veteran dies, what an amazing life. RIP.

Can't say fairer than that! RIP.

My Grandad was a Somme vet. In his regiment (Staffordshire) 400 went out, 4 came back....

My God that brings it home.... a horrible statistic.

My Grandad George served in the Navy during both world wars.  He was a young kid of 14 or so and cabin boy/assistant to one of the senior officers at Scapa Flow when the German Navy scuttled their ships and was actually present at the meeting between the German officers and their British counterparts on one of the British vessels during the surrender - my uncle has the ship's bell off one of the German ships.  He was also a massive City fan (lived on Platt Lane) along with my other Grandad Rodney who was shot in Madagascar and shipped home wounded. They took me to my first games at Maine Road when I was tiny so I'll be thinking of them and my Gran Olive (who used to throw water at Utd fans from the upstairs window in her house in Dalton Avenue which was attached the stadium) tomorrow  :)

My Grandad was on the Somme too, though in the Royal Artillery Corps.

It still amazes me that I'm separated by only two generations from an event that is now receding very rapidly into history. I grew up next door to an lovely old gent called Colonel Osmond who was the only medical officer on a column of British POWs forced marched across some desert by the Turks, enduring terrible conditions and losses (also WW1 obviously).

Mine was a tank commander in WWII, sadly died in France shortly after the landings. He was one of 3 brothers, none of whom survived through it. If he hadn't had children young I wouldn't have existed.

On the WW1 note...
My Great Grandad, Joined the Navy, age 8 (eight!) in 1896, sunk 3 times at Jutland, retired between the wars, was recalled in '39; was on the Warwick when it was sunk in the North Atlantic and finally came ashore in '47. Died in '81. Boy, the stories that guy told. Best bit though, his Grandfather had been a boy sailor at Trafalgar. We're not so far removed from history....
