Yup - seem like they punted them out only to be replaced 2 months later.

2008:
Quote
Doosan Babcock today announced a £11M project to create an industry-leading Research and Development programme in Renfrew, Scotland. The project, which is supported by an R&D grant awarded by Scottish Enterprise, will establish Doosan Babcock as a global leader for clean energy technologies including power station boilers and associated environmental control technologies.

The grant reinforces Scotland's reputation for world leading science and engineering and will support over 100 jobs. As the R&D Centre becomes established it is projected to grow to 200 staff over the next few years. The centre will ensure a continuing demand for highly skilled scientific, technical and engineering staff and the local economy will also benefit from support jobs. Collaboration with researchers in Scottish universities will increase

March 2011:

Quote
Doosan intends to locate its research and development centre for renewables at its current site at Westway in Renfrew, creating up to 200 jobs.

The Korean firm is also in talks with the business development agency, Scottish Enterprise, to set up manufacturing and assembly facilities in Scotland - its favoured location for wind turbine development and production.

  See the similarities?  Hopefully it works out a bit better this time...

Amazing stuff, it's not like there's nothing of importance going on around the world to report on.

Artificial leaf 10-times more efficient than its natural counter-part

Lets hope this see's fruition (and whilst the aim of getting it deployed across the third world is laudable, getting investment from developed countries would be far easier if its made available there at the same time).

Another slow news day? Or just that journalists can no longer be arsed to look for any real news, they just regurgitate any old shit they see on twitter?

Worth reading whether you like / agree with Hari or not:

Good read that, makes sense.  Shame politicians don't learn from the history/evidence and prefer to just make crap up.

Here's a little maths problem for you......

One of the stories on 6Music News this morning is on the number of potholes in Britain. Apparently there are 2 million of the buggers across the country. A tarmac company claims it will cost Local Authorities 'over 10 billion pounds' to fix them all.

Now, you clever people, how much is that per pothole? Do you think it would be worth advising the Local Authorities to maybe shop around a little bit?

Sheeeeaaatttt - I'm in the wrong business, at £5000 per pothole I could retire in a few weeks!

Quick bit of maths on the back of a fag packet gives me the figure of £5000 per pot hole.

Is the pot hole problem being contracted out or has it been so already though? I seem to remember hearing that LA's were supposed to be sorting out the problem with some form of government help. As it is the tarmac company talking head could just have pulled a figure out of the air when asked what the cost would be to resolve it.

Shirley, its not that simple. Cost might include payouts to road users for damaged vehicles. Indeed our very own "lambo" bust a tyre in a pothole, for which we received a crisp 100 quid cheque from kirklees council. This, along with several council employees hourly rates must also be factored in.

It's just the usual case of fucking lazy jurno cunts!

If you actually read the report, it states that the average repair cost per pothole in England is £53.81, which sounds pretty reaosnable and realistic to me.

Sometimes Most of the time I hate the fecking press!   >:(

Last year just under 2Million were filled. £10.6m was spent on compensation claims, so approximately £5.50 per pothole filled.

The £10 Billion is the "Hypothetical amount it would cost to fix all the roads in England and Wales in one massive project"  A figure almost entirely unrelated tot he number of potholes filled per year.

There we go, a few FACTS to counteract the press hyperbole!

However, in sadder news Edward Stobart, son of Eddie Stobart and responsible for establishing the company as  the national icon it is today has passed away.

Sadly, his life was restricted to just 56.

However, they are making a film of his life - it looks good; I've seen the trailer - it's bound to appeal to people of haulages.
