Good effort to the caller. It's hard to be so clear and coherent when you're as angry as he obviously was. A quote from someone who works with my better half, who has had lots of direct dealings with Gove is that his view of good education is "children sitting in a classroom silently listening to a teacher talk and memorising pieces of information." She also said that no matter how much he is lobbied he can't conceive of anything other than his own narrow experience of education, and has absolutely no concept of the realities of education for the majority of people.

Frightening.

Victoria is now copping the remnants (ahem) of the system that has caused all the trouble in Queensland. The ephemeral creek behind my house is now a raging torrent 3 metres deep and 50 metres wide!! It's not really threatening the bank at the end of my garden but just in case, has anybody got some spare sandbags they can send me?

I'll try and post a pic from our place this evening.

Yep, we're OK here. The creek has been holding it's own since mid-morning - it was still at the same height a couple of minutes ago when I had a last look before dark. Rain stopped around lunchtime so it should start dropping overnight. Some areas of Western Victoria have had a rough day (over 250mm of rain in 2 days) including around Arapiles and the Grampians but it is pretty trifling compared to southern & central Queensland.
