Not that discrimination on the basis of ones religion is in anyway justifiable at all, but religion is a choice, and your race isn't  (although one might argue that many people are indoctrinated into a religion from birth, but it can still be changed through choice at a later date).

And on the whole Niqab/Burka thing, I wonder how places such as Meadowhell which have a "No hoodies" policy handle such things, as essentially the Niqab/Burka is the original hoody!!  If they're permissible then why are modern versions discriminated against?

I think it's a bit dodgy ground to ban them specifically.  But I can't go into a bank with my motorbike helmet on, so am I being discriminated against if people can go in with their faces covered?  And the last time Lagers went into M&S with tights on his head he got asked to leave. 

It would make more sense to me to outlaw having your face covered in public, but then you'd be accused of racism by stealth.  If it was a level playing field for everyone, whichever way it went, surely that would be fairer?
