Even without seeing the show I suspect the reviewer may have had a point. Mind you, if Chris de Burgh is still out there performing I feel a visit to the room 101 thread coming up!

there was a clip on the LNOTP show this weekend of CdB "performing" a cover of a Beatles track(long and winding road, was it?). Was utter shite. he performs with the emotion of a the terminator, and sings out of key. TWAT.

You reckon Demijohn Moore is staying away from pottery classes, just in case?

NO SHIT SHERLOCK!!!!

I remember a tv programme about similar trials being a resounding success about ten years ago but nothing was done about it. It's not exactly complicated is it.

Flip-out

New service from Google (actually called FastFlip) that aggregates and presents news pages very quickly, pretty good.

much as I'm down with reducing crime and taking money out of the hands of dealers, does it not wiff a bit of a load of rattling skeletors saying "give us free gear or we rob your shit"? On a similar theme I recon we could cut drink-driving in half by taking pissheads out to government-run pubs, pouring a skinfull of free medical-quality ale down their necks and paying for their taxi home. Where's the incentive not to become a piss/crack/skag head (delete as applicable) in the first place?

Where's the incentive in the first place?

I doubt most people sit down and make a rational decision and choose to become addicted to whatever drug they happen to be addicted to.

Not quite the same... if you made alcohol illegal then it would be a more similar situation. Then would you get an increase in crime driven by people trying to get booze/trading in booze/getting the extra money to get booze as it was 10 times the price?? Prohibition?

That scheme cost £15000 a year per participant.
It costs (IIRC) £2500 a week to keep someone in HMP.
Police estimate that 30-50% of crime is drug related.

We (taxpayers) spend a fortune picking up the tab for other 'self inflicted' conditions - such as obesity, heart disease, alcohol related diseases etc.. etc.. etc.. so the 'why should be pay to treat someone who's an addict' approach doesnt wash with me either.. (I know thats not that you were saying that Dave.. I just wanted to say it..)

Have you been reading the Daily Mail dave?  ;)

Do you really think you're going to encourage more people to start abusing drugs because there's a better treatment programme for them should they become addicted? I can't imagine there are many people who sit down and make that decision so logically!

Quote
Research suggests that between half and two-thirds of all crime in the UK is drug-related.

The costs (both financial and on so many other levels) of the way "the drugs problem" has been mishandled are fucking immense. The cost of this type of project is miniscule in comparison and it's the only logical way of tackling the problem that's been tried (more than once!) and shown to have a massively positive effect.

I don't really give a fuck if it's handing out drugs to scumbags. If it cuts crime, saves money and generally improves society then it's a good thing in my book.

EDIT - Beaten to all those points by slackers / tomtom
