Par for the course, my late grandfather and die hard republican used to call Thatcher a commie sympathiser.

Ah I just can't resist.......

I stand by my assertion that McDonalds are a bunch of total and utter cunts.

Quote from: Harry J. Sonneborn, a McDonald’s executive
“We are not basically in the food business. We are in the real estate business. The only reason we sell fifteen cent hamburgers is because they are the greatest producer of revenue from which our tenants can pay us our rent.”

cunts.

whats most remarkable/lucky is that the autofocus picked it up rather than staying put.

Interestingly that is the same lake where we got engaged.

WTF since when did saving a life become a sport

At least it is one of the few sports that originates from and is grounded in something with a point to it.

Of the list there, I think it has the most merit and would at least raise the profile of beach lifesaving.

I'm absolutely fucking sick of the Olympics already. Every day there seems to be some non story or comment relating to "2012". Today on the radio it was some shit about women's boxing. Wake me up when it's over.

Errr, isn't swimming already in the Olympics?

What are they going to do, have a heep of lifeguards who all jump in and race to save this guy..

(I think Eric is an absolute hero, true spirit of the Olympics which is simply taking part, but I couldn't find anything else with Olympic swimmers drowning).

And anyway, how do you define the "best" life-saver?  The quickest to drag someone out of the water, the most effective mouth-to-mouth, the most rib-bones broken during CPR?

It makes as much sense as having synchronised brass rubbing, twatting about on ice and softball in there.

i'm amazed this guy didn't need the lifesavers:

I recon if the American Lifesaving Association of America or whoever can club together enough of a bribe they can get it into the olympics no bother, just like the japs did with those incomprehensible track cycling events.

you leave me no choice.......http://tinyurl.com/op9rv9] http://tinyurl.com/op9rv9 ;)

You quite clearly haven't got a clue what competitive lifesaving involves, but as a brit that is hardly surprising. It is pretty popular in countries that actually have a beach culture. And besided I am not saying it is worthy of inclusion as an olympic sport, just that it at least has a grounding in something practical, and would be good to raise the profile of something at least beneficial to humankind in general. And it was odd that you singled it out for criticism.

You got me there I don't have a clue, but I did live in Perth (Australia) for a year, went to the beaches a lot and saw plenty of lifeguards on said beaches but never saw any training or competition type events.

I singled it out precisely because of that, its an activity/endeavour that benefits humankind in general and is one of the most altruistic acts an individual can make.  Trying to turn it into a sport, in my opinion, belittles and denigrates the most laudable acts/endeavours of those kind enough to endanger their own lives to save others.
