In terms of crime, those using ecstasy rarely turned violent or committed public order offences.

Where are the "Annual death toll" results for Alcohol and Tobacco? Surely that information would add some kind of perspective?

Quote from: www.guardian.co.uk
Annual death toll

Heroin and morphine 622
Methadone 276
Cocaine 86
Amphetamines 70
Ecstasy 33
Cannabis 14

Quote from: www.patient.co.uk
About 106,000 people in the UK die each year due to smoking

Obviously more people smoke than take Ecstasy, but if the death toll is important then surely there are other areas to look at first.

It's just a joke when everyone knows the correct course of action (the police, the government's own advisory committee, the politicians themselves) and yet they're too scared of the Daily Mail backlash to do the right thing. A very sad state of affairs which also applies in many other cases.

As this board's resident Wire propogandist, I refer you the end of series 3 and the 'Hamsterdam' debacle for one of the most astute pieces of satire regarding the 'drugs war' that you'll ever see.

Am aware that was a bit off topic - anyway. How about a pretty on-the-money rant regarding Hazel Blears?

I really don't like Monbiot..
Sorry, I like many of the Gruniads correspondents but he gets under my skin. I think he's a winger who sits on the sidelines and just tries to poke holes in what happens. I always get the impression his cup is half empty and he seems to look for the faults rather than the positives. However, despite the ranting this is interesting and he certainly has a point. What he shows (not how he says it) is good stuff...

Sadly, politicians = theives, liars and cheats.
Find me an exception.....

That was also the first time I've ever looked at the daily mails website (shudder),.. funny Gruaniad article about the Daily Grail.. I particularly like the comment about having to visit to the editor as being 'double cunted'  :)

Saw that on the front page buying my daily dose of Irn-Bru this morning.  Absolutely fucking ridiculous, should be refused assistance from the state and the parents of the kids should take responsibility for not educating their children properly.

I know what you mean, but that would just leave the kids worse off in the end.  I have no clue how we go about fixing a world where this kind of thing is deemed acceptable.  It would make me angry if it didn't make me so sad.  They've really got no chance, any of them, have they?  :(

As much as that is a fine idea, I'm not sure that's really fixing the issue, is it Jasper.  ::)  ;D
