I have an old (old) Moon Saturn (I think) circa 2008 vintage if anyone wants it? One of the closure loops is going to fail at some point soon.

Collection from BB10/Trawden/Colne/Widdop area. If there's no takers, I'll be getting rid of it before a mouse decides it'll be a good home for the winter.

If no one else wants it I'll stick it under my board, but I have quite a bit of foam so if someone else feels they'll get more use out of it then they should have it

The time has come to pass on the ukb little life child carrier. Very kindly given to me by scouse and it had been really helpful for getting out in the countryside. Well used but still plenty of life in it. Collection in s8

Anyone want/ need to get into soldering? Electronic, not plumbing soldering.I just upgraded all my kit ahead of a big project so I have lots of stuff to get rid of. None of it’s great and it’s almost all used but if you’re starting or only need to do small jobs (although I did pretty big jobs with this stuff) it’ll be fine.

12w Antex iron that’s good for PCBs. A number of tips for this, some unused.
25w el cheapo iron that’s gets pretty hot.
Stand, sucker, wire strippers plus some lead free solder too.

Ideally collect from Sheffield S11 but I can post at cost too.

What's the new project? Soldering is a skill I've never mastered, not for the want of trying. Just seems I'm shit at it!

I'll take the antex Cheque.. got all the other stuff, but a fine small iron is the one thing I lack.

Also intrigued by the project. Done quite a lot of soldering over the years - started with my RC cars as a kid. Caving headlamps, school projects involving leds back in the late 80s, plumbing too. Love it, so satisfying when it all goes well and is neat.

As a child my brother set himself on fire by pouring molten solder into methylated spirit. He was wearing a coat which went fully ablaze. He ran to my mum who pulled the coat off and rolled him in a carpet to put the flames out. His burns were all superficial and healed without scars thankfully.

Sorry not related to soldering...

Clearing out my mums garage:

Nice pull out kitchen bin thing. Brand new. 400mm/515mm version:

https://www.hafele.co.uk/en/product/pull-out-waste-bin-400-mm-vauth-sagel-vs-envi-space-xx-pro-s-pro/P-01496878/

Snow chains, used:

Tecna weissenfels clack and go. Used. Size 8? The ones on this link:

https://www.snowchainstore.co.uk/weissenfels-tecna-m30-8

4 x winter wheels 205/55R16. Goodyear ultra grip. These are on steel wheels on a 5 bolt pattern from a Toyota Avensis around 2008 model? I can't remember. The wheels have only been used for 2 months or so and have loads of life left in them. The steel wheels were around £30 each (when I got them a few years ago) so if the tyres are the right size but the bolt pattern is wrong you could get them remounted on new wheels for not that much ££

https://www.tyrereviews.com/Tyre/Goodyear/UltraGrip-Performance.htm

Pick up from Hathersage.

Fish tank and accessories

38 litre glass fishtank with pump, LED light, heater and thermometer, fish food and water treatment.

Needs filters for pump otherwise just add fish (and water).

Collect from N London. Have original box to transport.

I'll take the winter tyres and snow chains if possible, might be able to collect this weekend?

I’ll WhatsApp you Sam

The project is cabling up my basement studio and doing some repairs/ improvements on my mixing desk. There is a shit ton of work to do which will on one hand keep me busy til spring but on the other hand if I don’t get it all done by spring it’ll be another year of all my gear looking pretty but not actually making any sound…

-Tin everything.
-Apply the solder to the work, not the iron.
-Use the right tools for the job (I guess this applies to every manual job but with soldering the line between impossible and enjoyable is often tiny and hinges on iron temperature/ bit size/ having the right setup to hold things comfortably etc.)
- in my experience it helps to have a project that’s big enough that you “learn on the job” with the added pressure to get good quick and not fuck (too much of) it up
- don’t pour molten solder into methylated spirits.

Disclaimer: I’ve never done surface mount soldering. IIRC Highrepute’s job’s in electronics and he knows way more than I do.

Here’s a playlist of videos telling the story of a man fluctuating in and out of sanity during the four-year process of making an analogue polysynth from a kit, which solderheads with a lot of time to kill may enjoy

Cool. I'll pm address, if I'm out they will be in/just outside my mums garage so accessible anyway.

I’d be keen for a better soldering iron, mine is terrible. I remember asking for some advice in Bardwell’s before they closed but wasn’t up for the spend at the time.

A name drop, nice!

I try not to get hands dirty but have soldered occasionally.

I've heard that thing about not applying solder to the iron but I think it might be wrong or misunderstood advice. I would, and it seems to be standard practice to, put some solder on the iron, gives better heat transfer when you're trying to warm the bits up.

My other tip would be to use and understand flux or solder with flux in. As I didn't understand about this till I was taught and it makes it a lot easier.

Yeah, didn’t explain that very well. Skimmed keeping some solder on the tip under “tin everything”.

I was referring to the universal beginner error of holding the tip to the part(s) you’re soldering and putting the solder on the iron directly- if the parts haven’t heated up enough it’ll melt on the tip but not flow onto them. If you apply the solder to the part it’ll only melt when all the bits are hot enough and flow evenly onto the joint. Remove the iron and voila.

My Dad’s career was in electronics with the latter part of it teaching FE students how to solder (only when kids I’d been at school with started being taught by him did I learn of his reputation as a hardass who chucked students out of the class at the slightest disruption ) and he said that was always the “lightbulb moment” between them creating cold joints with Matt grey balls of solder all over the place and being competent.

Double mattress up for grabs, needs to have a home by 21st dec.

Good condition, only used for a couple of years.
Pickup in Sheffield.
