That doesn’t affect 2 Alpes, they’re not linked except by touring.

New lift at 2Alpes is the upgraded Jandri to high speed bubbles.

I know, but personally if I went to 2Alps I'd want access to La Grave. Les Arcs has upgraded the old Transarc bubble, will see how it improves things this coming week

Surely this year is the perfect opportunity to get a guide and access la grave over the glacier from the top of Les duex alpes. Would be worth the cost of a taxi back from la grave to access the massive and I would assume relatively untouched playground (compared to normal years when the lift is open)...

I like your thinking.

2Alpes isn't the biggest ski area compared to some but it is by no means small. Only a few are significantly bigger. It didn't feel at all limiting for a week, and we barely skiied the glacier or the Venosc side at all. It was my son's favourite resort, mainly because the Jandri is so long that morning ski school basically consisted of the bubble to the top and then one long run all the way back to resort for lunch. He also had an instructor who could carve backwards and ice 360s off the smallest bump.

Interesting idea, but I reckon it would need a guide who really knows his shit to navigate terrain that's barely been touched all season

Wasn't aware of the Le Grave lift closure but his is a great idea! Been looking at a week in Serre Chevalier as it looks pretty decent and the skipass includes 2 days in Le2Alp and Huez if we get bored!

Anyone stayed at Bourg-St-Maurice? Looks like great access to Les Arcs/La Plagne... Found a good looking appartment but a bit concerned that as it's below the main Les Arcs resorts we're gonna get shafted on getting up high in teh mornings and end up spending half the week in Queues...

Personally not stayed there, wouldn't be worried though provided you are prepared start your day early, the funicular (<10 min) opens at 7:30 so over an hour before the lifts from Arc 1600. If you really wanted to get high early on then early to funicular up to 1600 then ski bus to 1950 and jump 2 lifts to the top of the Aig Rouge. You can also jump the bus from Bourg to La Rosiere if you don't have a car and didn't want to ski the Les Arcs area.

As sxrxg says, you are going to spend a long time sitting in funicular, but if you are cool getting up a bit earlier and happy with extra travel that's good. Also remember if you are getting back from La Plagne tht you need at last 2 lifts to get back to 1600, so give yourself time and avoid getting stuck in the bottleneck at Arpette lift in La Plagne at the end of the day.

Nice one! Thanks guys... Currently it's a toss up between Serre Chevalier and Bourg-St-Maurice, both about the same price - both probably shoeboxes for 4 but slightly bigger in SC... Kinda leaning toward BSM now. Psyched!

At least a bit more going on in the town. FWIW Serre Che is pretty low, quite far south and almost exclusively south facing, so suffers a bit with ice / slush. Are you going to fly to Chambery?

Flying to Grenoble - then Ben's bus... If we get the place I'm looking at it'll be all in for around £650 inc passes - if we then have access to decent shops it could be a pretty sweet gig...

Isn't Serre Che predominantly north/north west facing? Unless I was totally disorientated last time I drove along that valley, which is also possible...

Anyway back to Bourg, if you do end up there and it snows Sainte Foy is meant to be a blast. Some brilliant easily accessible off piste that doesn't get tracked as quick as the larger resorts in the area. I believe as well that the area skis much bigger than the piste map would make you think it is...

That's what I thought... It's definitely not as high as Les Arcs but does look good and the access to the other 2 resorts seems to make it quite attractive...

Have made a preliminary booking for Bourg-St-Maurice, hopefully they'll accept the booking... Frothing!

Anyone been to Are (Sweden)? Heading there for a long weekend in March and know nothing about it.

Yes but I have a memory like a sieve so I'll see what I can dredge up...

It is all pretty mellow I think, mid week nice and quiet and the modern chairs were decent and fast - I don't remember many queues although the second weekend we were there was a lot busier (but nothing compared to France in school hols). There were nice runs between the trees at lower elevation so sheltered from wind and better vis and there were bits of off piste between the trees here. Top bit could get pummeled by wind so the week we were there the off piste up high was horrid. We did find some mellow quiet glade skiing out right somewhere. Obv not hard to get around the whole resort as compared to big euro destinations it's pretty small. I don't think we ate out or partied at all. We had a few days with mixed vis and I got the impression this not unusual.

It was a nice place as well and felt dif to normal euro resort.

We then got the train (and plane) over to Stranda in Norway (cool train through remote snowy areas) which was a bit more exciting resort but not really of any use to you unless you can squeeze in an extra week and have a bunch of £ spare.

I think the plan was we would get a decent, kinda guaranteed week in Are with reasonable amount of terrain etc before going to Stranda which was a bit more hit and miss (it was great)

My knowledge is some years old, but I have stayed in Bourg-St-Maurice and it worked well (we had a car). Skied at Sainte-Foy as well as Les Arcs. I never liked Serre Chevalier, but presumably they’ve updated lift infrastructure? I was last there in 2008 and it was tedious.

Sorry, you are right, my memory is from climbing in the valley about 20 years ago, must have been disorientated! We are staying just outside Peisey from Thursday for 6 days with a car. Planning Les Arcs for Thursday if forecast is correct, and need to pick someone up from Aime on Friday night, so keen to ski somewhere else, reckon there will still be freshies to be had at St Foy? Never been, is the good stuff obvious? Other option was La Rosiere. Keen to go to Espace Killy too, but the guy we are picking up on Friday wants to go too, so will save for later.

Brilliant info thanks, chilled weekend sounds ideal :)

Nice one - Cheers guys... Place in Bourg-St-Maurice got declined for our dates... Bit gutted but found another that's only slightly more spenny but more spacious. Fingers crossed!
