I must confess to having never heard of them until they released Absolute Elsewhere and the accompanying hype. Going through their back catalogue, Hidden History is good but a bit flat for me, and sounds similar to most modern death metal which just doesn't do it for me. But still worth a listen. I actually quite like their old demos especially 'Astral Spells' which has a rawer and doomy sound.
I agree that Absolute Elsewhere had the potential to be a bit cheesy but in my opinion they got it just right

Headliners and top support line up would have made an amazing gig some time in the ‘80’s

I wonder if all the solo artists listed is pointing to some sort of band aid effort?
