Froggatt/Curbar looking blacker than I thought they might when I drove past on my way home this afternoon… but it was just a look from the road, so imagine there would be some snowy top outs/some drainage…

Just drove back from Hayfield and I think Froggatt and Curbat looked in great nick! It was warm in the sun even high up. Other rock catching the sun looked to be warming up too.

Tried the Ringingkow last night and it was way worse than I expected. Would avoid unless you have 4wd or winter tyres/ mad skillz.

Bit drippy but everything at Remergence was dry today. Bannafinger and flick of time looked alright but not much else. Ringinglow was fine with all season tyres and saw someone at hampers hang when I went past. I might head to curbar for walk on by sometime this weekend although Clodhall lane was an ice rink so would have to walk up from the village. All the A roads were clear of snow/ice should be able to get to froggatt not sure about parking though.

Everyone should have a pair of Autosocks. Less than the price of a pair of climbing shoes. Check what size you need (including the old sizes before they changed their system) and have a look on eBay through the year.
Easier than developing mad skillz.

The main bit of the Froggatt hairpin looks ok, but the narrower part near the gate is full of snow. Might be ok in a half decent car (ie not me) Lay-bys near the Grouse also quite snowy, and didn’t look like anyone had tried to get in them.
Looks like a stunning day tomorrow so an earlyish start probably required to get a parking spot anywhere

Just on our way to Cratcliffe and Curbar is currently sat in low lying cloud (from that crossroads by Gardoms down towards Baslow is in cloud - I’m kinda presuming that Curbar will be too)

Just an FYI for folk…

It was the irony of it that struck me!! Could have had a pad party on Jordan's unrepeated (?) Boomerang E8 6c...

Is everything going to be a mess later on with temperature set to rise a bit? Might have chance to get to the peak later however it is a bit of a drive for me and not sure I want to spend an afternoon trudging around wet rock.

Mam Tor sounds like a bit of a shit show, https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cr53n054jl6o
I avoided the Peak yesterday partly because I was worried about parking.
To my mind, the parking/public_transport situation is THE critical access issue for our National Parks.
It is great that in recent years many more people are visiting. That should be encouraged and accommodated. Instead there seems to be less provision and more restrictions. How is that honouring the legacy of the Kinder Trespass etc?

I agree. Where do you think is best for the mutli story car park?

Thread split?

I think the National Parks have several “critical issues”. One of which is that none have very much money to deal with the other “critical issues”.

Beyond that (lifted from https://www.cnp.org.uk/our-national-parks/national-park-faqs/), National Parks have two purposes:
  • To conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage
  • To promote opportunities for the public understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities of the Parks
In cases where conflict exists between the two purposes and reconciliation proves impossible, the first purpose should take precedence – this is known as the Sandford Principle.
