Like it says. (couldn't include all vids cos it doesn't like long polls, so slimmed it down to the best).

Note: last 10 added posthumously, thus not in alphabetical order. No-ones going to vote for masters of stone really are they?

Rampage is far too american- making problems look harder for the video by screaming lots, and far too much "love" for Chris.
Real Thing does it for me everytime, for such an early attempt at a climbing video you'd have to try very hard to beat it.

I just made the toughest descision of my life......

Rampage or Hard Grit :?:

I went for Rampage. It snook in by the skin of a gnats cock. I don't know how i can look at gritstone anymore without feeling dirty.

I'm still going with Stick-It but I've still never seen One Summer

I had to go with rampage in the end. Seeing Sharma do that egg problem is just really inspiring but there are bits in it that you have to fast forward through  :?

I'm convinced it's not training that makes me climb harder, but watching rampage. Maybe its get embarrasing over a certain age i dunno.

theres just too much shit in between, and too much we love Chris.....

IMHO Frequent Fliers is way a better film, more inspiring too (makes me wanna quit my job and travel)

but when alls said and done, Hard Grit wins hands down

Respect to anyone who gets it together and actually makes a film but most of the listed films are a bit dull after a single viewing unless you're after a bit of sneaky beta.

Best climbing film: Stone Monkey, with only Hard Grit a credible alternative. SM's still the most original film made about climbing after all these years. Whatever you think about Johnny the film captures him brilliantly. And the Quarryman groove section is a better illustration of creativity in climbing than anyone else has managed. HG's brilliant too. Captures an era and an attitude, loads of originality and personality.

Honourable mentions to films not on the list: Splinter and Gogarth, both classics. Splinter brilliantly captures the joy of the physicality of climbing. Ignore the surroundings, ignore the hype, just glory in the movement. Gogarth's great because it's filmed at Gogarth so it's automatically exciting.

Then there's Fred Padula's El Capitan. And, of course, the old Edlinger film, La Vie Au Bout Des Doigts. And, and, and...

I agree - Stone Monkey is great, and has a special place in my heart as part of it was filmed where I was living at the time!  And I'm actually in it for a very brief moment  :D

Reminds me of those great 80's doley climber days.

splinter is on the end of that salathe thing so i didn't put it on the list seperate.

The thing whick taints SM for me is that you know johnny is hamming up most things on there adn climbing them in a deliberatley spectacular manner.

I don't think he was hamming it up much really, that's pretty much how he climbs whenever I've seen him.

Cooper Roberts has also repeated the Egg problem, there's a video on www.modump.com  . Again, just cos problems look nails on Rampage doesn't mean they're that bad.
