nope - simply right click the image and cut and paste the location - leaving off the bit at the end of the address that's after .jpg

Comes up every few days, see here.

Flickr allows pics to be linked, but some users don't.  You can tell the ones that don't as when you right-click on the picture to open in a new tab the picture linked is called "spaceball.gif".

...yes, and by the way, flickr ask you to link back to Flickr when you post Flickr content elsewhere.

The Flickr service makes it possible to post content hosted on Flickr to outside web sites. However, pages on other web sites that display content hosted on flickr.com must provide a link from each photo or video back to its page on Flickr.
A most reasonable request I think.

Say you want to link in the picture on http://www.flickr.com/photos/wiklund/290535002/ . Right-click (if you have a three-button mouse) or ctrl-click (if you have a one-button mouse) on the picture and chose "copy image location" or something similar from the pop-out menu, in this example http://farm1.static.flickr.com/109/290535002_4c4e8cf4e2.jpg?v=0 .

Do away the with everything after .jpg as hongkonstuey wrote, and simply type:
Code: [Select]
and, voila:

In this manner there is one back-link to flickr, improving the google rank for the host.

Indeed, very reasonable and clearly stated in the terms and conditions (for anyone who bothers to read them  ;) ).

I've been doing that myself for most of the flickr pics I post (unless I've found them ebedded elsewhere and they've not been back-linked correctly) and have been meaning to place an addendum to the HowTo.

However, given that some (many?) people have difficulty embedding images in the first place despite (what I feel to be) a clear HowTo (okay maybe they don't know it exists) I think this would generally confuse people.

Thats not to say that it shouldn't be done, but lets get everyone walking before trying to get them to run.

I will however add this info to the HowTo.

Yeah it's hard to write instructions, but it is way harder to make people read them....

Anyway I found a way to grab the url for the page containing a photo hot-linked from flickr. Grab the url for the photo

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/76/226430248_bc49fad4fb.jpg?v=0

and strip everything except the number 226430248 before the underscore, google that number
http://www.google.com/search?q=226430248
and there it is!

It only works for some photos though.
